Just read in the LP that Bart's on Broad has closed. The article says they weren't able to reach the owners but judging by the appearance of the interior of the establishment on Friday, it would appear unlikely that Bart's will be reopening anytime soon. A number of furnishings, wall decorations and other articles had been removed from the premises.

This hurts downtown a bit, especially along that stretch of Broad St. since it was the only bar in that area. In fact, wasn't Bart's the only nightclub left in downtown? Not that there were ever many to begin with. We need more entertainment venues like this to attract more people downtown afterhours giving it a lively nightlife. The good thing is we've seen quite a few new restaurants open up in downtown lately.

Bart's was known for it's Sunday "Industry" nights and it's nightly karaoke in the back part of the bar. This really sucks and hopefully it reopens down the road.

Its just a change of owners is from what I heard and its supposed to be opened again in the Spring.

Regina Sets New Direction ... the picture is of Tracy Fahlman of the Downtown Business Improvement District on a street corner in downtown Regina.

Inside there is a 2 page article talking about the rising economy in Regina and all the activity happening around town, with a focus on downtown.

This has been a huge week for publications beeming about Regina. It was a very interesting read.. Very impressive ... I highly recomend it.

It talks about the record level of construction permits.. it goes over the approved new residental development in the SW, as well as another large residential project proposed for the SE. It seems this will carry the city towards 300,000 decades from now.

It also talks about the very strong housing market in the city over 2006 and the increased average price of housing.

It then focuses on the many projects happening downtown.. including the many conversion projects including the federal government building (old Galleria), Century Plaza, new Wingate Hotel, STC head office and the redevelopment of the Army and Navy location. It also discusses the surge of residental units in the downtown in recent years.

Overall a very informative article which really painted a bright future for Regina.

Has anyone noticed the new LED Video billboard at the intersection of Vic and Arcola?

Not that big of news I guess, but it's odd, what's with the sudden surge of these electronic signs everywhere? I can think of 5 that have gone up in the last couple months.. there must be a new company in town making them?? Or maybe its just the latest fad and I'm out of the loop

And good to hear about that Western Investor article, hopefully they'll post it on their website soon

Hmm that is only the 3rd that I know of. Ipsco place, Conexus Arts Center, and Arcola and Vic. Where else are they in Regina?

I know when I was in Orlando last month they were all over the place......must be the in thing.

An ownership change would be news to management of the Chateau Tower, as Bart's was apparently behind by four months rent (@ 12,000/mo). They are treating it as a "cut and run", as the place was trashed. The building maintenance guy was letting people poke their heads in to see the damage. They were telling people they were closing for reno's, even the cook showed up for work on Tuesday morning unaware of the sudden closure...

a co-worker has close ties to a former owner who paid the current owners $2000 for that wooden bar counter at the front. The current owner let him send in six guys to dismantle it after Bart's closed Tuesday morning. They also took the old mirrors from behind the front bar, and he admitted they tried to take the stoves out of the kitchen too, but the piping was too solid.

Seems to be some issues with the location of the skatepark.

I do agree that the location is a little odd, but I think it's a good project overall.

Also, if you're wondering about that website idea I had a while ago, that's still alive, but on hold due to the fact that I'm broke as shit

and for my last bit of news, I got a job offer for Amec Engineering in Regina, and I'll be moving back to the queen city in the spring

I am also a big fan of that corner in Regina. I especially like the Crown Life building.. it is still a very sleek building, which adds alot to Scarth St.

Thanks! I live in Moose Jaw right now, but I'm in Regina 2-3 times a week anyways, so I pretty much still do live there. Really, I was just too lazy to change my location

Nice work on the downtown 3d model, hopefully it's a side project you won't get bored with. Just as newfyler said, that's a great corner in the city, I got the view out the office window and sometimes when I get bored I just sit and stare at it.

Congrats on the new job, I gave up Saskatoon to work in Regina.
