This definitely WASN'T the Provincial Lab building they were talking about... that was discussed also.

After re-reading the RRP page of the booklet, I just noticed something else:

- Planning has begun on building Canada's first Net Zero Energy building.
- RRP is constructing new roadways, underground and electrical services and parking to make way for new buildings.

Has that Net Zero Energy building been announced yet? That's the first I've heard of it.

What's a Net Zero Energy Building?

Can you tell me the publisher of this booklet. Perhaps I can find it on the internet.

No, it's not what you think, it's just a small booklet much the same as the City Leisure Guide included in the paper three times a year. I'm sure you could get one from the LP or maybe even City Hall.

Does anyone know what's going into the old Peavey Mart building on Vic East? It looks like they're expanding it by about 1/3 the size.

I actually got this booklet in the Leaderpost and the Sun (free paper published by the Leaderpost). So maybe you can keep your eyes open for that as well (comment directed at CCF, not you MadMax).

If that's true, I wonder if that will be a second location or if they'll close the Avonhurst store?

Anyone care to take a guess at what our population may be come March (when the census is released).

Do you believe we went up in population, remained the same, or declined?

I'd bet it's a second store. There are 6 in Winnipeg; five too many in my opinion

Wow...that's a lot.

I've never been in. We only got ours within the last two years.

Trust me; you aren't missing out on anything grand. They seem to open them up near welfare offices for some strange reason

For a Canadian Retailer in the line of business (discount merchandise) that Giant Tiger is seemingly involved in, I would say I am impressed. It is not a store I frequent, but is popular and useful. It is a hybrid between Wal-Mart the Dollarama. I know a few people on a tight budget who worship Giant Tiger. Long story short, I wouldn't call it a blight on any city.

The paper mentioned that the Airport will be demolishing an old building to make way for a new building, roads, and parking lot(s). It also clarified that this had nothing to do with the proposed terminal.

A second story mentioned that one Conservative MP is lobbying Harper for money to inject into Ipsco Place.

Another great story today in the Calgary Herald.. about people taking a serious look at Saskatchewan and it hot economy, as a place to relocate.

I don't have the article online... it was in todays biz section .. front page.

Affordable housing ... falling taxes and short commute... people are talking.

Bart's is done

Just read in the LP that Bart's on Broad has closed. The article says they weren't able to reach the owners but judging by the appearance of the interior of the establishment on Friday, it would appear unlikely that Bart's will be reopening anytime soon. A number of furnishings, wall decorations and other articles had been removed from the premises.

This hurts downtown a bit, especially along that stretch of Broad St. since it was the only bar in that area. In fact, wasn't Bart's the only nightclub left in downtown? Not that there were ever many to begin with. We need more entertainment venues like this to attract more people downtown afterhours giving it a lively nightlife. The good thing is we've seen quite a few new restaurants open up in downtown lately.

Bart's was known for it's Sunday "Industry" nights and it's nightly karaoke in the back part of the bar. This really 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 and hopefully it reopens down the road.

O'Hans and the Freehouse are still going strong. But I do agree, we need more of these sorts of things downtown. Or at least if the railyards were out of the way, then the Dewdney strip would be close to the CBD.
