In the second half of the nineteenth century there was a strong Chicago envlovement in the economy of NE Wisconsin. Odgen, Gardner, Holt and others operated the lumbering industry that provided the raw materials for Chicago construction particularly after the 1871 fire. The Peshtigo fire wasn't as all inculsive as burnover maps would lead you to believe. You probably saw the same program I did, it wasn't sparked by a meteor either.
