--Today's preference for white-collar careers allows skilled craftsmen to test new limits on how much they can charge.

Seriously, I've always had a good feeling for 50 E. Chestnut, I think something like this would fit rather well over Millenium and Grant parks, I am not quite convinced by the predominance of glass--the Heritage, the Legacy, 340, that blue Randolph-Mich pencil...

Worried about how the back (W) side of the Clare will end up looking, from some 3-D renders I remember it was just a blank parking wall a la the W side of Bloomingdale's / Four Seasons, except with dark screens.

Great photos, goes without saying, despite the rather nasty image host.

In the second half of the nineteenth century there was a strong Chicago envlovement in the economy of NE Wisconsin. Odgen, Gardner, Holt and others operated the lumbering industry that provided the raw materials for Chicago construction particularly after the 1871 fire. The Peshtigo fire wasn't as all inculsive as burnover maps would lead you to believe. You probably saw the same program I did, it wasn't sparked by a meteor either.

The limestone on 50 E. Chestnut is a nice touch. In a decade or two, that building will have a great patina.

I guess the seniors that put down money will be long dead before this one gets finished.

Does anyone have an address or at least a location for it? I'd love to add it, but there's no way to add a building to an indeterminate location.

340 OnThe Park

I have a fantastic view of the west side - top 20 floors or so of 340. They seem to have stopped installing the glass about 4 floors or so from the top - nothing seems to have happened for the last month or so....anybody know what the delay is about?

I had thought this was planned as a rental tower, but a description matching it showed up yesterday in Bidclerk stating condo units - does anybody know which is correct?

X/O Condominiums

Hey guys, I'm sort of in a debate with somebody at another website. He says he was told by the Alderman that sales at X/O have been very poor.

But I recall reading here, perhaps 2 months ago, that X/O was actually selling pretty well. It would be quite hard to find that particular discussion. Could anyone help me here? What was the sales mark it had reached--I thought one of you said 50 or 60% or something along those lines.

Thanks for helping

Vision on State is close to being topped out....I think it's probably on its last floor or second to last floor. Even though it isn't all that tall (19 stories and 210 feet) and the architecture isn't very impressive either, it is certainly making a dent in the surrounding skyline. Currently, there is nothing within almost 3 blocks that is more than a few stories tall.....and the valley extends much further on the west/southwest/northwest sides of Vision. It definitely makes it's presence felt when you are at the Roosevelt/State or Roosevelt/Wabash intersections.

I think you are right.....I want to say that it might have even been 70%. I'll go through some old posts on this site and see if I can find anything....

TUP - I found this....I didn't have a membership so couldn't read the entire article, but it says that the North tower sold 65% of the units in just the first 3 weeks. Who knows if they are exaggerating at all. A friend of mine who is a real estate agent did go to the grand opening though...and said that it was a madhouse there and that people were signing contracts right and left.

I visited the X/O sales center last week and the sales agent told me they were 50% on the north tower (the larger one). They have not yet begun sales on the other tower.

Anyone else notice the huge banners and crap on the site of the 419 W Belmont project?

There was a website listed:
http://www.h3177.com/

The building is now called H3177 (or Hudson 3177)

3 story brick walk-up. Looks like it was built in the 1920's. I'd rather not see it torn down, but....

Meh, its pretty typical of 1920's neigborhood apartment blocks. Nothing really special, as these are a dime a dozen citywide. I'll gladly take the increase in height and density near the lake.

Could have been a mistake - it would be a very silly move at this juncture to change a planned project from rental to condo (I mean, considering the current state of both markets, what sane developer would do that?)...

I had also heard that the first tower was over 50%...I'm planning on visiting the sales center again hopefully sometime next month....I've been in debates with our friend as well over there...
