A few pieces of news; I'll start with the bad:

1. Parkview West will be only 497'-6" tall, not 506'-10" as we had it before. It will be 49 stories tall.

2. 600 North Fairbanks will be 457'-8" tall, up from our earlier figure of 450'-9". The roof height will be 457'-2".

3. CBS 2 Broadcast Center (possibly known instead as "Media Tower" - see the B37 thread) will be 275'-10" tall to the top of the coping on the mechanical penthouse parapet, one foot shorter to the roof. Also, caissons DID begin in October on the NE and NW towers of Block 37, so the whole complex is officially under contruction, although after the podium is done the 2 northern towers may go on hold for a little while.

All heights are taken from blueprints viewed today.

Size of the site -- 80 x 70
Height -- 470'
Number of units -- 72
Lit and enclosed roof top garden
The building's cladding will extend down the lower two floors of the Doral on both sides.
Two story restaurant looking over the park (2nd and 3rd floors?)

It looked OK, nothing Earth shattering, but much better than the Doral.

:cool: CHICAGO: Millennium Park Plaza - 470' (143 m)

To be located at the northeast corner of Randolph and Michigan.

Address is 151 North Michigan Avenue.

The footprint will be approximately 70 feet X 80 feet (21 meters X 24 meters).

Just a question. From the NY area, it seems to me that the buildings (under construction/proposed) in Chicago are not only taller in stature, but greater in number proposed, than what is going on back east. Is there any way to confirm this, or to compare the numbers. After looking at the first page of this post, the absolute number of buildings going up seem to be stagering. I think it is the greatest thing I have seen. I wonder if Chicago is the city where builders come to do their work, good environment (government/approval wise), space, decent prices. I am so excited to see if many of these come to be built. I don't know, seems to me either the market is bigger here or the attention paid to great architecture is just greater?

Thanks all.

I love it! It's simple, modern, and elegant. It's great to see Chicago getting more slender towers. I like the cutout at the base and the angled glass that exposes the columns. I think it's perfect for that tiny little plot of land at the already vibrant corner of Michigan and Randolph!

Very cool. It looks a lot like the Legacy, but I think the two will go together quite nice given that this one is so much smaller and skinnier, plus the base of Legacy will be obscured. I know they don't have a lot to work with on that site, but I find the base a bit uninspired.

/why not buy air rights over Michigan and Randolph and make the building wider as it goes up, like that one UIC dorm?

Is the building being built with directly south of the Doral?

Yep, it looked like there was a little space between the two buildings, but not much at all.

Wow - I'm surprised at ParkView's new official height - if anything, I always thought it appeared taller than it's earlier height...

Thanks for getting those. Been meaning to get that information on 600 N. Fairbanks for 2 months now.

I must say that I am disappointed about the height reduction of Parkview West. That height that I got did come from the blueprints, but I got that info over a year and a half ago.

Are we sure that the 497 ft number is just for the roof height and not to the top of tower point?..Im only asking becasue we had 497 on the first page as the roof height and 507 to the top of point..just thinking dan might of quickly looked at the roof height number.

He's thourough when looking over the prints as am I. Things just change sometimes. BUt I do believe that it is a good idea to check the prints again as the building reaches its topping off point.

The height I got was to the top of the parapet. The roof height was even lower, something like 488'. Designs do change over time, and height reductions and increases are not uncommon in the months before construction begins. In this case it was probably some sort of value engineering.

The base slooks really slick and definitely much better than I anticipated from SCB. Thanks for posting those pics.

^Just the bottom few floors, where they will be adding better/more retail spaces. I really like this design. It was very well thought out (and presented), and tries to address many pedestrian/urban issues. Specifically, that it adds a new connection to the pedway, will link to grant park garage to use existing infrastructure without adding any new parking spaces, and reinvents the streetscape along Michigan Ave adding retail and a restaurant that overlooks Millenium Park.

The height was stated as 470' +/-. It really fits nicely into the skyline. The blue glass complements that of prudential plaza quite well, and its emphasized horizontal bands go nicely with the Smurfit Stone Building. And to top it off, it blocks the view of Doral Plaza from the park, which isn't exactly a looker.

Dellisart Chicago LLC Completes $42 Million Financing to Develop Staybridge Suites in Chicago, Illinois

First “Staggered Truss” Building Downtown to be Largest Staybridge Suites in System Officials of Dellisart Chicago LLC, a joint venture between Dellisart Lodging LLC, a hotel ownership, management, development and acquisition group, and Miglin Properties LLC, a Chicago-based real estate development and management company specializing in the development of commercial properties, today announced that the JV has secured $42 million in financing to develop a 206-suite Staybridge Suites in downtown Chicago, Ill., at the corner of LaSalle and West Huron. Financing was provided by CapitalSource, a specialized commercial finance company. The hotel will be managed by Dellisart Lodging LLC. Plans call for the hotel to break ground January 25, 2007.

“While we have numerous projects occurring internationally, we remain focused on expanding our U.S. portfolio, as well,” said Douglas E. Artusio, Dellisart founder, chairman and CEO. “We have exceptional development and management teams in place to accommodate our accelerating growth. The Staybridge Suites brand, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group family of brands, is a great product, well suited to the needs of extended-stay business and leisure travelers seeking relaxed accommodations with high-tech amenities in high traffic markets.”

When completed in the summer of 2008, it will be the largest hotel in the Staybridge portfolio. Staybridge Suites offer upscale, all-suite accommodations with fully equipped kitchens. Among the various hotel amenities are high-speed Internet access, 24-hour business centers, complimentary breakfast and evening reception, green space, fitness center and library with books, board games and television. Suites have separate living and work areas with two-line speaker telephones and personalized voice mail. A leased restaurant and parking facilities are planned for the ground floor.

The hotel will be constructed using the staggered truss structural system. The high rise building concept consists of a series of story-high trusses spanning the total width between two rows of exterior columns and arranged in a staggered pattern on adjacent column lines. The basic concept is that the total frame behaves as a cantilever beam when subjected to lateral loads. This process allows developers to build in all weather conditions and to lower costs based on shorter construction time and a faster completion date. Additionally, the finished product has more open space for increased flexibility of interior space.

“This marks our third Staybridge Suites in the greater Chicago metro area,” Artusio noted. “Our other two properties already rank among the highest rated in the system, and we fully expect this hotel to equal or exceed those excellent results.”

“The Staybridge Suites Chicago is among nearly 100 hotels in the brand’s robust Americas pipeline and will be an excellent addition to our upscale extended-stay portfolio,” said Robert Radomski, vice president, Brand Management, Staybridge Suites. “We are thrilled that

Dellisart Chicago LLC chose to build a Staybridge Suites for this ideal location in Chicago’s bustling downtown area, and we look forward to offering the Staybridge Suites experience to our guests seeking extended-stay accommodations in downtown Chicago.”

Amenity highlights planned for the new Staybridge Suites Chicago will include:
• Three well-designed spacious suite options—deluxe studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom/two-bath with:

* 32” flat panel TV’s
* In-room DVD/CD players
* Functional, well-lit work stations with ergonomic seating
* Complimentary wireless and wired high-speed Internet access
* Complimentary local phone calls
* Two-line speaker phones with direct-dial number
* Fully equipped kitchens.
* Deluxe complimentary daily breakfast buffet
* Complimentary guest laundry
* Complimentary workout facilities
* 24-hour business services center
* Guest library with books and games
* BridgeMart, the hotel’s 24-hour convenience store stocked with snacks, sundries, beverages and easy-to-prepare meals
* Evening "Sundowner” receptions three days a week with complimentary refreshments and light appetizers
* A leased restaurant and covered parking facilities for the ground floor
