Housing Units for Seniors

Tuesday, 10 October 2006

An affordable housing project in Saskatoon will help seniors live more independently.

51 new affordable housing units for low to moderate income seniors will soon be constructed in the Nutana area.

Bob Jeanneau, past President of Knights of Columbus Charities says there seems to be a demand for the project.

He says the housing units will also include as a kitchen that will provide three meals a day, some housekeeping and supervision.

Funding of just over 5 million is being provided by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, the City of Saskatoon and Knights of Columbus Charities.

Hmmm. I can't think of too many available properties in the Nutana area for a project this size...other than the MoB sight. I sure as F*&k hope not. Otherwise, good for the geezers.

Edit: Further research indicates it will be in the Market Mall area which for some reason gets referred to as Nutana in real estate circles.

Market Mall is in Nutana PARK is it not? I can't wait to see the renderings of both housing projects, as I am sure they will be gems...

On another note, the Crane constructing the office building at Innovation Place started going bye-bye today. Any guessing on where it's headed next?

Market Mall is officially in the neighborhood called, "Nutana Suburban Centre."

I will ask around about the Innovation Place crane, and try and find out where it is headed.

Wait, the Black Duck closed?

Yes it is, but real estate ads frequently drop the 'Surban Centre' part. The news release I cited also did the same.

Another crane near the Legion today, though from this angle it looks like it might be at the River Landing park.

That sculpture, Prairie Wind I believe, is supposed to be going up soon. I imagine a crane is needed for that.

Ya, you definitely need sculptures before you have any buildings or people.

There are apparently a lot more sculptors than there are developers out there at present.

Hot gossip: Mitchell's is no longer moving. So no more south bridge (at least, not as it is currently designed). Wow....

Mitchell's is shutting down (over three years). South Bridge still possible.

Hot off the press

Some info on the property between the Canada building and Empire Theatre here: http://www.guardianrealestate.ca/images/...nex/212_-_1st_Ave_S_Lse_Pkg_2_pg.REV.pdf

One of the bays is already leased.

I'd like to see how that detailing works out in the end. As they say they don't build 'em like they used to though it looks like they're going to try to seamlessly merge this with the Canada Building. I wish them all the best.

BTW, I think it's time someone e-mailed Meridian again.

A friend of mine sent me this rendering of a 17 storey building that is being planned for Broadway Avenue. I assume that this is the Meridian. It is a low resolution jpg file so I apologize for the lack of quality. Just thought some of you Toontown forumers might like to see it.

Not bad. Doesn't blow me away, but there's nothing like it in this town.

What is your friend's source?

If you're not pulling a prank here, you just got named honorary president of the local SSP Chapter (assuming I have the authority to do such).

It's really nice. I hope this is not a joke!! Looks better than a lot of other stuff that we have here.
I hope the main floor is the Credit Union. This would give Broadway a big city look.
