The little shop was at the west end of the Wilcox Hotel. I saw Bob Dylan's "Don't Look Back" there in the mid 1960s.

Their makeup and skin tone almost makes them look like these are in a wax museum.

Because one of the Bilderrains (Jesus B.) was a casualty (injured) in the events leading up to the Massacre.

Just for the record, because I became curious, going by the city directories the Bilderrains relinquished their above house in 1892 or 1893. In the latter year, Refugio Bilderrain's home address is for the first time 1621 Pleasant Avenue (Boyle Heights).

Flickr user Howard Gribble posted a collection of photos he calls "Wartime Album", his description is as follows....

The album was created by a young woman during a period covering appox. 1942 through 1946. Her name is not known as she refers to herself only as "me". She seems to have been a student at the University of Southern California, graduating in the winter of 1944. The relationship of those in the album to each other is unknown. The only individual positively identified is United States Marine Corps Pfc. Karl T. Flowers. He and several of his buddies apparently visited Los Angeles on leave in late 1943. Known as "Katie", he was a native of Paris, Tennessee.

Karl Flowers....

Pfc. Flowers sent our nameless USC coed snapshots as he served in the Pacific....

Pfc Karl Thomas Flowers ("Katie" in the album) was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions in the battle for Saipan in July of 1944. The citation reads in part: "For meritorious achievement in action against the enemy on Saipan from 7 July to 12 July, 1944. Private First Class Flowers repeatedly volunteered for patrols whose missions were to destroy fanatical and aggressive groups of enemy entrenched in caves, cliffs and ravines. Although a member of the Division Shore Party and trained primarily for such duties, his familiarity with demolitions and infantry tactics enabled him to stalk and destroy the numerous enemy groups encountered. His ability, leadership, initiative, courage and tireless energy were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service".

Pfc. Karl T. "Katie" Flowers was killed at Iwo Jima on Feb. 20 1945.....

Martin Turnbull posted a 1942 view of the hotel but I went looking for a bit cleaner image and found it here with an original source linked: https://storage.googleapis.com/dzirmfsbzgavle/wilcox-ave-hollywood-ca.html

This is a cropped section which shows the Shoe Repair shop just to the east of the west end storefront that was mentioned as the location…

sourced from blog linked above and cropped.

At that time it was called Franco’s (Shoe) Repairing.

Abridged from www.worthpoint.com:
A very nice look at the Red Mill Club which was a Bar and Restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. This place was notorious. The two story building to the left of the Club was the Los Angeles Blue Bird Hotel and Baths. Fantastic historic original snapshot of the notorious MOLINO ROJO (Red Mill) Club located in Tijuana, Mexico. Japanese Secret Services used some "covers" to protect their activities. For example, the Molino Rojo (Red Mill) in Tijuana, Mexico was a brothel used by Japanese intelligence agents for conferences and as a meeting place. The Molino Rojo was located in Tijuana's notorious Zona Norte , with its many bars and brothels.
More on the story at the link.

Hopefully Murray's Market is listed in one of the LA directories. ...(fingers crossed)
The only reference I could find in the CDs is Murray's pub[lic] M[ar]k[e]t at 7622 Figueroa in the 1927 Kelts Directory. It's been an empty lot since Google started StreetView, so I haven't been able to verify this address.

I think the video thumbnail looks AI-generated.

But the video itself isn't AI Slop.

I agree, Scott Charles. Thanks so much, Lwize. When I clicked on it and saw it was 1/2 hr. it felt like a chore I didn't want to do, but I kept watching and all of a sudden it was over. Who knew all this was happening; felt very hopeful. I mean, just read these two words: Concrete. Nature. Our daily doses of whatever form of media we use concentrates more on concrete than nature, if you know what I mean by that.

I'm pretty sure the narration is AI, but still an interesting video. Thanks, Lwize.
