They have made alot of progress with the new road base of the Highway 3 extension from Wonderland/Ron McNeil to Colonel Talbot. Should have no problem completing this phase next year if they don't waste time. Hopefully they start on new Kettle Creek bridge abuttments next year as that will likely be a two year project.

Forestry crews have started clearing trees on the next phase of the Highway 3 widening in St. Thomas west of First Street. Lot's of earth moving will be needed to dig out the embankment along the north side. I would think they will be starting on the Kettle Creek bridge abutments this year as well in order to build the new bridge deck next year.

Starting in a small way some utility relocates around the Wellington and Highway 3 intersection. No activity around the Kettle Creek bridge. There doesn't seem to be much urgency in making progress on the widening of the highway.

The new Wonderland and Highway 3 intersection is moving slowly with alot of work to complete. They are still working on the overpass of the railway tracks to the west. They have poured the concrete curbs of the new roundabout at Colonel Talbot and the Highway 3 bypass as well as installing new light poles.

The provincial Ministry of Transportation has started an environmental assessment on a new Highway 3 alignment between St Thomas and Aylmer.

The purpose of the study is to identify transportation improvements to Highway 3, including a new arterial road connecting to the St. Thomas Expressway extension, known as Technology Trail, to improve transportation connections between St. Thomas, including Yarmouth Yards, and communities to the east.

Looking at future operating conditions on Highway. 3, with additional population and employment growth in the study area:

• Highway 3 will be over capacity by 2051
• Centennial Road/Highway 3 intersection will be over capacity in both the morning and afternoon peak periods
• Traffic signals will be required to provide gaps for sideroad traffic to enter or cross Highway 3 (Yarmouth Centre Road and Springwater Road)
• Signalized intersections in Aylmer will be over capacity during peak periods
• Highway 3 traffic will likely shift to other municipal roads

A new corridor (shown in blue on the map) would be routed north of the existing Hwy. 3, with five alternate routes (show in yellow) bypassing the Town of Aylmer.

Interesting, but I think there are numerous roads in London that have hit capacity long ago (I'm looking at you, Wonderland).

Even Hyde Park Road has atrocious traffic in the evenings (and it was upgraded to four lanes only 10 years ago).

Highway 3 from Highway 4 to Wonderland coming along. Pretty massive rail overpass structure for a rail line I don't recall the last time I saw a train actually use. Roundabout at the west end of the hwy 3 extension at hwy 4 now formed. Bridge abutments and centre pillars almost complete for new overpass at Ron McNeil and hwy 3. I can't recall how Wonderland is supposed to merge into this.

And at the other end of St Thomas, work begins on twinning the original highway 3 bypass.

Looks like paving contractor has started on Colonel Talbot and Highway 3.

They have now complete a lane shift on Colonel Talbot north of the new roundabout for the highway 3 extension connection. Suspect they will start working on the other side of Colonel Talbot Rd next.
