The irony of that corner is that Fable Diner had its last serving today. They closed because all of the construction has limited the traffic to their business.

All in perfect time for the road to now reopen. So sad.

You'd think the city would have learned from the extensive reports a decade ago, written after the construction debacle that was the Canada Line, and how that decimated businesses on Cambie Street. But no, the exact same playbook went ahead with this construction project, and some well-established, law-abiding pillars of the community are just wrecked with debt because of the cack-handed process to deal with businesses that actually helped make the neighbourhoods stable.

I mean you say all that but it could have been about a greedy landlord trying to squeeze money out of them knowing the pending subway will make the location even more lucrative.

Fable on West 4th has been on the market for at least two months:

And the Richards location has been on the market for a while as well.

Their There closed in Kits because they jacked up their lease and it didn't make any sense to renew.

Their Mt Pleansant location lease was 14K a month on 2897 sq feet. Same rent for Kits but 2000 sq feet. So it'll be 18-20K a month after it gets jacked up?

Fable went downhill during the pandemic. It's mostly got nothing to do with the construction. Anecdotally I heard that the quality of the food noticeably decreased while menu prices went up.

Looking at the traffic cameras they seem to be paving the south side of Broadway b/w Oak and Laurel. Kinda hard to tell the extent of the paving from the webcam.

Traffic switch-over at Oak looks to be delayed and hasn't happened quite yet. Lines are painted now, and it seems they're into the final touches. Presumably it'll change over tonight?

That would make sense but you think they'd rather have a soft open a few weeks earlier when volumes are low.

Really hate the road dieting they are doing along Broadway. It's good in theory but you know people will illegally stop in no-stopping areas to load and unload leading to more congestion.

Have you looked at the station block designs? There are designated pick up/drop off zones.

And don't underestimate the reduction in vehicles on Broadway with the elimination of the 99 B line - the road simply has to do far less than it did previously.
