This picture is a fine example for why the Port should never paint the light blue cranes the same dark blue as the other cranes. Does anyone know if they still plan to paint them dark blue, or have the light blue cranes already become too iconic to change?

Fun fact - these were Maersk cranes, that’s why they are the same colour. Maybe the port doesn’t want company specific colours when they service several lines. Maybe they also want consistency in colour. Not sure
The Santorini Express coming to Saint John - largest TEU ship to come to port, has over 1200 reefers and it’s believed to be put on this route to support Americold.
I've heard that Atlantic Towing will be purchasing two new tug boats for the Port of Saint John to replace smaller, aging tugs. This will better support the port for larger vessels and follows in the footsteps of the Port of Halifax, which received two new tugs in 2024.
The tug base is still over by Americold; I haven't heard if they still plan to move them to Courtney Bay or if that is no longer the plan.

Those are some rough numbers. I am surprised there hasn't been more news coverage about this, or maybe there is and I just don't see it.
I am well aware of the benefits of Saint John's rail network, but is there something else driving such a steep decline? Is Saint John's growth at Halifax's expense, or is that volume going elsewhere to Quebec or down to the US?

I believe that some of Port SJ growth is at the expense of Halifax, but not all. Hopefully Port SJ continues to grow despite Halifax's downward trend.

in Saint John as one of a kind facility (for now) in terms of it being the only cold storage facility at a port on the eastern seaboard with direct access to a cross continental railway network.
Port Saint John has a clear logistical advantage with its direct access to the CPKC network.

Port Saint John has a clear logistical advantage with its direct access to the CPKC network.
This is pretty cool, and when major corporations make statements like this, it will most likely get the attention of other transportation companies.
DP World themselves beginning to invest I still think will be the catalyst.

Three months after a union representing hundreds of New Brunswick mill workers sent a letter expressing alarm that the factories could shutter, no one will provide an update about what’s going on – not the union, the company, government officials, the suppliers, or the port that exports their products.

She said the two mills made up 70 per cent of the sea-can exports that flow through the port in Saint John.
“If they were to cease operations, it would be a major blow to the port and to economic development in the region.”
Brunswick News tried to contact local company officials and union leaders this week to get an update on the state of the mills, none of whom returned multiple messages.
John Herron, the provincial minister of natural resources, ignored requests for an interview. A spokeswoman for the Port Saint John, Becky Knox, was similarly tight-lipped.
“We don’t comment on commercial activities for any customer of Port Saint John,” she wrote in an email to Brunswick News. “We value all of our partners, including AV Group, who represent an important part of our province’s economy.”
Just in case it’s missed, they are not referring to mills in Saint John. Nackawic and Atholville. Wonder if this explains the already big drop in containers.
