Looks horrific! You take a historic & beautiful neo-classical building and then wrap a curtain on it and you call that amazing? To me its an insult - I wonder how they plan to destroy the ornate interior.

Meh, its kind of the perfect symbol of the Métis, indigenous beadwork on a neo-classical, staunchly European building. Its a blending of worlds which is exactly what the Métis are.

I'm in the middle on it. If you're 'those damn indians desecrating white mans world' type, that's a bad take. The whole point of the beads is to add the metis heritage to the building. The inside looks fantastic from what I've seen. Adding some beads, which can be removed, seems like a non-issue besides that perspective I mentioned.

My wifes family is metis, as well as my kids now. Saying that, from an architecture perspective, I'd prefer to not have the beads. But I do think it is cool and fun. As long as it's maintained and doesn't turn shabby with beads hanging allover, it's fine.

One thing that does really bug me is moving the soldier statue. There's still room for it, should have stayed where it was.

I agree, if it had to be moved it's hard to believe another property at Portage and Main wasn't interested in hosting it.

The building is protected. Very little changes can be made. I have been inside in the last month and the restoration work is incredible. It will be beautiful when done. I too am on the side that the bead mural looks amazing. I was told that it is not a forever thing. It will wear and tarnish over time.

I think it looks great. Maintains the heritage of the building while adding flare that represents it's new purpose. Something unique for such a central and important intersection.

And if the building ever changes use again, easily removable.

Those cars have a lot of motion blur for being stopped at a red light. Regardless, Cops will ticket you all the same.

You make a very important point that I didn't think of when I posted above - I will admit in my haste my assessment was too harsh. I simply liked the building the way it was and didn't feel it required any changes.

I hear ya man. Im with bomberjet that it bugs me they hid the statue away at Brookside Cemetery. It was a memorial of our heritage in the Great War, despite being dedicated specifically to the bank employees that fought.

I think the beadwork looks a lot more soft and "classy" versus how it was depicted in the renders. I like how it turned out.

It’s a spectacular solution. Will win all the awards….and it should.

I think the beadwork looks terrific. Even if other beautification projects are introduced to P & M I think this will be unique and a real signature look for the intersection and the city itself.
