Jeppson's Malört and absinthe are both made with wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), but they taste very different. Malört is a dry, intensely bitter Swedish-style root and herbal liqueur from Chicago with no anise flavor. Absinthe is a high-proof spirit dominated by sweet anise, fennel, and licorice notes.
Key Differences:
Main Flavor: Malört tastes violently bitter, earthy, and herbal like grapefruit pith, while absinthe tastes like sweet licorice.
Anise and Herbs: Absinthe relies on anise and fennel to balance the herbs. Malört lacks anise completely, leaving the sharp, raw bitterness of the wormwood exposed.
Alcohol Strength: Absinthe is very strong, usually 60% to 75% ABV. Malört is much lighter at 35% ABV.
How They Are Served: Absinthe is traditionally dripped with cold water and a sugar cube. Malört is served straight as a shot or mixed in a drink

"Violently bitter," is probably the best description of Malort that I've ever heard.
I legit cannot think of anything that I've ever ingested that is more bitter than Malort.
Some people (like me) like that about Malort,
And a lot of people hate that about Malort.
But it is magical......
For yor tum-tum.
