Several people are suffering from minor injuries after random alleged assaults that took place in the downtown Vancouver area over the weekend, including a Vancouver man who got punched for refusing to give the suspect money.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), a total of four assaults took place within just a span of 30 minutes on Saturday.

VPD says that shortly after 2:40 p.m., the suspect first entered a business on Homer and Dunsmuir before he started to allegedly demand money from patrons and employees of the business....

Global News has learned that one guest has been staying at a former hotel on Granville Street, despite the B.C. government promising to shut it down.

The Luugat, now owned by the B.C. government, still has one last resident — Ryan Donnelly.

He was also still living there in mid-July.

The Ministry of Housing said it cost $101,000 to house Donnelly in July and he is still there.

“It’s insane,” Vancouver Coun. Sarah Kirby-Yung said.

BC's political structure is blue-balling. Every single person in the NDP over the last decade has done their circles as ministers in multiple departments and have been absolutely unforgiving pieces of shft in every position they've been in. Your only other option the ballot has is the conservatives and screw that. If the alternative to the NDP is a party that's even worse I'm seriously becoming concerned people out there seeing the same thing might just take matters into their own hands in an effort to break the circle of the same faces.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is sharing some information about a violent attack involving a couple in downtown that left a man injured on the pavement.

According to the VPD, the incident occurred near Nelson and Richards streets last night at around 11:45 p.m.

VPD said that the couple was walking back to their hotel from a concert when a stranger approached the pair from behind. The suspect punched one of them in the face. VPD said the victim then fell to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement.
The VPD also confirmed that the couple was actually visiting from out of town...

...VPD has described the suspect as a white man who is between 5’5″ and 5’8″ tall. VPD believes he’s between 20 and 35 years old, with a medium build. At the time of the attack, he was wearing fingerless gloves....

The VPD is appealing for witnesses to come forward following a series of disturbing acts in downtown Vancouver this week.

On Tuesday afternoon, VPD officers were approached at Robson and Howe by a witness who reported that a man was harassing a child on a bus. Officers were unable to locate the child but based on the witness’s description, they located the suspect and observed him enter and exit several businesses and approach a number of women. At the time there was insufficient evidence to recommend any criminal charges to Crown counsel in relation to these incidents, but the man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.

The man is described as South Asian, approximately 45-50 years old, 5’7’, with a slim build, black hair, and wearing a white buttoned dress shirt and blue jeans.

“The VPD is wanting to identify any outstanding victims or witnesses who may have had an encounter with this male, and we are asking them to contact police so we can fully investigate these incidents,” said Sergeant Adam Donaldson.

Assault charge following random stranger attack in East Vancouver

man has been charged after allegedly punching a stranger in the face yesterday.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a woman was walking near Hastings Street and Clark Drive when she was suddenly confronted by a man who allegedly punched her in the face, causing a cut beneath her eye.

With help from a witness, Vancouver Police officers located a man matching the suspect description a few blocks away.

Kurtis Hummer, 36, has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Did you follow the case at all? Words were exchanged and Schmidt came out swinging at a guy smoking a joint outside a doorway and Gosal took the nuclear option with a knife he had on him. Frankly if he was a nutcase drug user I think it would have been even harder to prove intent to kill. If anything, it was Schmidt who "stranger attacked" Gosal. (Justified? Up to you.)

Was it justifiable self defense? Not according to the court.

Was Gosal a nutcase intending to kill someone? Also not according to the court.

Did Gosal commit an assault causing the death of someone without explicitly intending to kill them? That's what they decided upon.
