I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about the upcoming upgrades to Elmwood Drive. A combined investment of $25 million is being made by all three levels of government, with Moncton contributing nearly $7.5 million. This project will run from Granite Drive to Cedarwood Avenue. I’ve been advocating for this for many years, and I’m delighted it is finally happening. Just four days after becoming Mayor of Moncton, I received enthusiastic support from both the Federal and Provincial governments for this project.
There was talk today of widening Elmwood Drive into a four-lane roadway. However, it’s important to note that this project should mirror the current layout as we have now from Cedarwood Ave. to Longfellow Drive: a separate multi-use trail on the right, a sidewalk on the left, two lanes of traffic with a centre turning lane for homeowners/businesses, and multiple crosswalks for pedestrians.
It will take a year to complete the plans and process tenders before any work can begin. If all goes well, we should be seeing shovels in the ground in 2028.
