Probably an "anchor" unit at a premium rent cost.
Also it breaks up the "flat wall" appearance of the building.

The mini mall on Filles de Jesus is now fully occupied. With PetValu, Nancy Nails, Pita Land and now Oxygen Yoga & Fitness taking up the last two spots, opening soon.

My wife will help them out with that. We had a bet. I said Vape Shop & Little Caesars. She said Yoga Studio... At least I won’t have to drive her to Dieppe anymore.

I'm not sure what's up with Pita Land. This was first announced about two years ago, but, aside from the windows being plastered with "coming soon" signs, there is little evidence of activity on the site. There is also a sign saying "franchise available." Perhaps the original franchisee backed out.

The Sobeys plaza on Elmwood is another prototypical neighbourhood commercial centre, just like Emmerson Park is turning out to be,

If Pita Land pans out, then this plaza will have 100% occupancy.

Tenants
- Sobeys
- NBLC
- Dollarama
- Lawton's
- A&W
- Pet Valu
- Nancy Nails
- Oxygen Yoga
- Pita Land (maybe)

New school to replace Moncton-area middle and elementary school
K-8 school will replace Sunny Brae Middle School and Forest Glen School

Quote:
Details about a $96.5 million new school planned for eastern Moncton were announced Monday.

The New Brunswick government said the K-8 school will be built in the Fairview Knoll area, between McLaughlin Drive and Elmwood Drive.
Quote:
Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the school expected to open in fall 2030. The school will be built on a vacant part of the Forest Glen School property.
Quote:
Anglophone East superintendent Randy MacLean said it’s just one of several projects in his district that are needed, since enrolment has grown by 5,000 students in the past four years.

“We've over the last five years grown exponentially, and we have several, it's the fourth project we have,” MacLean said, noting the Shediac, Salisbury and Dieppe school projects that were announced earlier.
Quote:
The new school is expected to accommodate 990 students, which Johnson said will be enough to fit the current enrolment of both schools.

But it’s uncertain whether the new school will be able to accommodate future growth between now and when the school opens.

Johnson said the exact number of students the new school can fit will be calculated in the design phase.

“We're welcoming at least 1,000 students because that's the existing student population now. But we're hoping that Moncton continues to grow,” she said. “And then we're going to factor that in in the design phase and then land on a number.”
It confounds me that the provincial government will only authorize new schools to accommodate current enrolment, and refuse to factor in new growth projections. This only ensures that the new school will again feature mobile classrooms littering the property within only a couple of years. This makes no sense.

Finally! I wonder what land they are referring to. Are they going to remove the forest next to the current school or build it on the current soccer field?

Well they haven't arrived at a number yet, right?

I don't think there is enough room. They are going to have to take some of the forest.

The forested parcel of land to the south is owned by Herritage, so it looks like they'll have to build it on the soccer field, if they plan to keep the school operating during construction. I wasn't sure how far south the property line went.

They can't close the current school, I don't think. So, that's going to be a tight squeeze and they better do their due diligence to make sure no little kids get near that construction site and get hurt or there will be hell to pay.

There is certainly precedent for that. They did the same thing here in Saint John with Seaside Park - built in in the field adjacent to the main school it was set to replace.

This exact same scenario was used for the construction of the new Ste-Bernadette School on Chapman St. in Moncton in 2012-2013. That site was even tighter than this one. The new school was built on the former playground, then the old school was demolished and then the new playfield was established. I have no doubt that the kids will be safe at all times. There were no incidents during the Ste-Bernadette build.

Does anyone know what is being built at ~130 Morton Ave? The land has been fenced off with Spitfire and Amico logos all over it, and some of the foundation has already been poured.
