A little bit of good airline news for the airport, Breeze is increasing its RDU and MEM frequency to three times weekly from two according to Ishrion on X.

With all of the new gates Breeze sure needs a south central US hub and San Antonio would make a perfect spot. New gates and plenty of room for a maintenance facility.

Agreed! Going to have a basically completely open Terminal A here in about a year and a half!

Right now Breeze only goes into Redmond/Bend airport. They have no directs to Portland as it stands.

This is a country-bumping-city. We have a city government giving the Spurs a hard time over the arena. And you think they care about a trans-Atlantic flight from SA.

To be fair, city council doesn't have the problem with the arena, the mayor does. Every single council member is against her on this issue... EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. She literally wants to have another vote JUST to have another vote on the arena. In no way can the money that was ALREADY approved by the voters be used for anything other than the arena... NOT the deficit in the budget. They're trying to find 150M to save over two years out of a yearly $4.4B budget... she can find it... she just doesn't want to and prefers to use the arena that she for some reason has a violent aversion to as a continual scape goat for failed leadership. I hope that she gets voted out in a landslide. The arena is a long term investment in the city that will FINALLY bring the needed sales tax dollars that evaporated from downtown when the Spurs vacated the Alamodome back to downtown.

I believe SA will get TATL service within the next 5 years. The new terminal opening early 2028 will absolutely help with this. Can you imagine hopping off a 9 hour flight from Frankfurt or London into the current Terminal A? Yikes. Not that that is the only factor that business and leisure travelers consider obviously when flying into a city, but it helps when your city's first impression is a gorgeous, modern concourse and terminal that says "We're a city that cares how we present ourselves". The lack of airline lounges I also believe holds SAT back, particularly when the airport up the road has them. Having Delta and American open lounges in the new terminal will pay dividends in attracting more high dollar business travelers.

Jalen is only one council member yes vote. If the the majority votes against the mayor then it's full steam ahead with the Spurs. As far as transatlantic future, I agree we have to wait until the new terminal is done and flying economy aligns itself. Nonstop to London is a given by default. I would think Condor gives us another go too with right sized aircraft.

I would think so as well. I believe the A321XLR would be a fit on this route potentially.

Very interesting. I doubt Delta would ever hub or even "focus city" San Antonio, but beefing up routes and adding some non hub routes would totally make sense considering their base up the road in Austin that could pretty easily provide pilots and FA's in close proximity. I definitely think Southwest will come out of their haze of the last two years of fighting with the airport, see this, and start adding some destinations to shore up their market share. Same thing for Southwest's base in Austin, I think SA will end up benefitting from that base being not too far away.

The comments section on that article has some interesting takes as well.

Interesting to see if Delta Air Lines adds a SAT<->AUS route where Austin is expected to add more long haul international routes once the new Concourse B is opened. Read where many travelers drive to Austin to take the non-stop routes to Europe and Hawaii (this direct route was stopped but expected to return with Alaskan/Hawaiian or Delta). SAT most likely will get two more direct CA routes (San Diego and San Francisco), Seattle, and Orlando.
