lol like the state would be any better. There's a reason you don't see anything of height for the most part south of Salt Lake and that mentality dominates the legislature.

I kinda agree and to be fair and it is not just SLC that I have complained about... I did not agree with the takeover of SLC's roads but I think exploiting this tension between the city and state is literally the only option atp

State politicians do talk about top-down housing and zoning policy, though, and have in the past cited SLC's obligation to build dense housing given the infrastructure investments in the city

Another surface parking lot, once the development falls through.

I hate seeing demolition on a perfectly-good block when there is a vacant lot next door. The way we permit stuff in America is pretty wasteful.

Downtown East - TheROW Townhome Project

Luke Garrott Reporting for BuildingSaltLake.com - Full Article @ https://buildingsaltlake.com/new-townhomes-in-historic-district-near-the-u-under-construction/

New construction in one of Salt Lake City’s mixed-use historic districts is about to get under way on a for-sale, four-unit project at 153 S 1300 E. Cole West (formerly CW Urban), a BSL advertiser, has secured permits and is
beginning construction on TheROW, to be located on the surface parking lot of the former LDS University Ward. Cole West obtained the lot in September 2024 from a LLC affiliated with JAB Real Estate, based in Chicago, which redeveloped
the University Ward building into apartments, a story we previously covered...

...TheROW’s four 4-BR 4.5-BA units, each just over 3000 SF, will be “meticulously crafted…embodying a blend of contemporary comfort and architectural style paying homage to the area’s rich heritage,” in the words of Cole West’s
application for new construction in a Local Historic District. The units will share a common space outdoors at ground level on the 1300 E side, and also enjoy their own 2-car garages and private 3rd-floor patios...

Downtown Update, Silo Park Building 3 - Now Under Construction

West of the newly opened Post District, this redevelopment next to I-15 will pay homage to iconic grain towers and add housing, shops and a sizable park to the Granary District.

In this SLTrib article about the work going on at the Sears site right now, there is a line from Intermountain's spokesperson, Jess Gomez, saying,

"Intermountain Health will release detailed plans for the complex later this year, Gomez said. The drawings would then have to be reviewed by the Salt Lake City planning commission before they could be finalized."

We will see what happens! Based on the original plan they released, I am not optimistic that it will be much better.

May we please use spoiler tags or whatever for huge photos? Do we need to see interiors of bed and bath?

That’s more accurate now.

Sorry, but a lot of us enjoy actually following the progress of a project with the pictures in full view, both exterior and interior completion. Also, it helps to break the sometimes flow of the cynical monotony of posts.

I agree. There's not much else going on here. I love looking at new development photos--exteriors and interiors.

Of course, we all wish there were a number of high rises going up downtown right now. After all, this is the skyscaper forum.

However, there is still a decent amount of infill going on throughout the CSA. Also a number of larger projects such Silo, the huge Deer Valley expansion, or the new hospital in West Valley, or the Price Computing Building going up at the U., corporate expansions, so many townhome projects its hard to keep up with them, etc. It won't be long before the whole West Sector of Downtown will be a construction zone.

Basically, like many on this forum I pretty much enjoy keeping up with all of these different projects.

In some places, if a certain height and massing is allowed, it's allowed.

I've had this complaint in the past and it falls on deaf ears. I think it's perfectly reasonable to spoiler these massive photo dumps. It's just being considerate of others. I can't tell you how many times I've missed an actual post because it was sandwiched between photos - some that have been posted multiple times in the past.

No one is saying the photos shouldn't be posted - it just makes it way easier to navigate this thread when they're tagged as spoiler. To me, it's the most unselfish approach as it still allows for people to view photos that I agree are nice without impeding navigating. But it is what it is.

This website probably has not been updated since before I was born... I think it is more the SIZE of the image breaking the entire message than anyone being upset about photos. I think I'd prefer spoilers for images that are not appropriately sized to this thread (I use imageBB.com to resize mine and spoilers when I don't). It just can't handle modern massive and high quality pics

Not directly related but maybe we should start a new thread soon? Since there is less activity and SLC is hellbent on killing anything we do get rn

They're nice but very expensive (likely to be over a million per unit).

This.

So many hopeless and helpless posts about how this and that sucks and blah, blah, blah. A whole bunch of whiners.

I like delts posts - I just think it would be easier to navigate this thread if the bigger pictures were hidden behind a tag.
