Usually the storms would track along the Red Deer river and Edmonton would get the lesser side. But the storms are tracking further north. We used to watch storms that developed in Rocky Mountain House. This is the first year I have ever seen tornadoes in the foothills around Hinton. That's on the doorstep of the Rockies.

At least they could daylight the spring that was there before they screwed the park up.

The weather patterns seem a bit different here this year, more cloud, more rain, and more wind than usual for July.

It's partly sunny in Vancouver today, with a high around 22°C.

I agree. It doesn't seem as relentlessly dry and hot as the past few summers.

After a few cool, cloudy and showery days it's getting back to sunny, dry and warm.

Tuesday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 22 C (25 C w/Humidex), the low was 16 C.

What's funny is after all of Nikko's complaining, Montreal was more than a full degree above the 30 year average in June. Now, of course there is more to weather than just the temperature, and there was a lot of cloud cover and rain which can make it feel worse.

Most places actually had a nice June, only Calgary and St. John's had a June worthy of complaint regarding temperatures, but even then they weren't terribly off average.

June and the first of July were ok but we had 7-8 months of bad weather to catch up. No other area in the country has had the accumulation of below average weather in that time frame. Should have had the warmest June ever... that would have been a nice start.

Also the lack of extreme had a psychological effect.

Highest temperature:
June 2026: 31.3C
June 2025: 35.6C
June 2024: 33.7C
June 2023: 34.3C
June 2022: 32.4C
June 2021: 32.5C
June 2020: 34.8C (had 36.6C in May as well)

You have to go back to 2019 to find a June highest temperature cooler (30.0C).

Also 150mm of rain in June, most since 2022. But that doesn't bother me as long as the temperature is good.

Hilarious stuff... EC forecasts 28C yesterday, we end up having disgraceful high of 23C.

Today EC forecasts a cool 22C for a high but we end up reaching 27C.

27C with a humidex of 33 and mainly cloudy. Yesterday was cloudy as well (with some rain). At least I saw the sun for an hour or 2 today. We are experiencing a rare July nor'easter.

Southeast of Albany, NY just recorded 11.27 in (286 mm) of rain in 24 hours. This is a 1 in a 1000 years event.

Low of 20C (humidex of 27) and cloudy. The low will boost the avg mean but this wasn't a very good day.

The warmspot was Morden and Melita, MB at 34.8C.

Warmest low yesterday Lac Saint-Pierre, QC at 20.1C.

Next time Metro posts avg temperatures, I will remind him this will end up our coolest July since 2023 with an avg of 22.9C.

20C and a light rainshower in Moncton at 10 AM. It will be a wet day with 5-10 mm expected. Not enough to put a dent in our drought, but enough to keep thing alive.

There is currently a forest fire just south of Riverview NB, probably about 15 km from my house. It is small (about 5 Ha) but is considered out of control. The rain will hekp.

There was lots of debris in the valley so I suspect you are right. Also with the amount of debris clogging catch basins we have flooding in newer areas.

This last storm caused very little damage to my area, I could rake the debris up this time. And I finally got the last downed tree chain sawed. But talking with friends in other parts of St Albert they were hit harder. And I noticed more downed trees on my way to the office yesterday morning. I haven't checked my roof yet. Some neighbors lost shingles. and a couple lost siding, but mostly its tree damage.

Was told yesterday that Calgary was sending crews up to help clear downed trees. The equipment out at the ball park is logging equipment. They will be another few days to clear that site up. hopefully we get some dry weather so we can at least reduce the flooding risk.

One spot I noticed in Edmonton was Victoria park road hill. A large washed out section of the hill side is now down the road way. The MTB trail in there will need a bridge now.

We are now getting into the summer pattern of hot sunny days and then around 4 you get the thunder storm warning, and then by 7 is a beautiful evening.

It has now been raining fairly heavily in Moncton for the last four hours. This is very good news for the forest fire just south of Riverview.

I was out earlier this morning. When heading home, I drove through the roundabout on Ryan Street and saw something that made me burst out loud laughing in the car (even though I was alone). There was a city pick-up truck parked on the treaffic island, and there was a worker in a rain slicker dutifully watering the flowers on the island, even though it was pouring out. He looked like a drowned rat, but, despite this, he was carrying out his duties.

I'm here for it! I was in Europe recently and it was just way too hot. To the point where we we saying, maybe Europe is just going to be a September through May destination.

And Edmonton, which is conspicuously absent from this graph that includes seemingly every other city in the country. lol.
