The 49 space daycare is still included in the DP, but it wasn't noted in the description. It's on the fifth floor.

The rezoning report said the FSR was 9.7, and the height was 312 ft, so it looks like the DP is the same as the approved rezoning, but they've reconfigured the design to add a few units.

It's fascinating working in Ontario and encountering such strong resistance to even the contemplation of a child care centre anywhere but at ground level. I have a project in Kitchener with a 88-space child care centre as part of a new market and affordable rental building. That's a pretty large facility and the outdoor play area requirements start getting up there pretty quick. Early on in the design process, I suggested that we look at using the roof level, or at least the podium roof level for the child care centre and they looked at me like I was turning into asparagus. There was disbelief from the licensed operator that new child care centres in such locations are norm in Vancouver.

Sure enough, we encountered all sorts of challenges trying to shoehorn in regulation-compliant, let alone nice, outdoor play areas on what is still functionally a compact site.

More fallout from Helen Chan Sun's bankruptcy. Howard Chai reports she's facing insolvency proceedings on Landmark Premiere's 540 W. 65th property near Cambie and SW Marine:

The new womens affordable housing project on Cambie:

Interesting they had a lot of ground contamination on that site and they also had a two month delay because of BC Hydro.

Here's 8555 Cambie. Someone messed up and uploaded the 7525 Cambie application booklet to the Shape Your City page so we just have this one render for now.

The sawtooth curtain (?) wall is like TD Terrace in Toronto.
Convenient for an airport hotel.

Application booklet here: https://rezoning.vancouver.ca/applications/8555-cambie-st/application-booklet.pdf

It's a skinny tower, only 50' deep.

There's 22k sf of industrial on the first two levels that they show as a commercial bakery.
Hotel lobby is on the third floor with escalators directly connecting to the ground floor entrance fronting Cambie.

Wow, upon first look really liking what I see with what looks to be a unique design in a highly visible location especially from the south.

I didn't notice there was really any lighting elements though, sad to see that the branding is highly muted (if at all present) and this building is going to just disappear at night without.

I'd imagine the rooftop deck would have some lighting elements?

It seems an ambitious move for a bakery, until you realise that BDK Development Corp, Breka's development arm is headed by Daisen Gee-Wing who used to be a senior vice-president of Canadian Metropolitan Properties who own the Plaza of Nations. (CMP have new owners).

More like pie in the podium.
VERY curious if they'll be running the hotel as an independent or be franchising a branded chain.
