I raise my hand! I do remember it. Your link is referencing her 1968 variety show The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show. It was on Sunday nights at 10pm (eastern). It was on 1/2 season.

In the fall of 1966 she was the star of a sitcom called The Pruitts of Southampton. It was on a full season of 30 episodes, but in January 1967 they tried to boost ratings by re-titling it The Phyllis Diller Show.

I just do not see how that's possible, but I can't place it anywhere else, either.
On the left it says "McDonnell's Rancho."

None of the aerials of Sunset and Cahuenga that I've check seem to match up. On the left, the building appears to say "SI PERKINS MARKET", which was apparently a well-known business at 6015 N Figueroa in Highland Park, but I can't match any aerials there either unless perspective is confusing me.

BTW. Is that a person on the wire over the birdhouse?

IIRC, that’s the San Fernando Road location out toward the turn to Burbank Airport.That same kind of tower seems to rleate to El Rancho Vegas in Nevada so maybe there’s a commonality in whomever did the design work?

Sorry, I missed that Highland Park reference. I think the area where this one must have been might have been alluded to in an NLA v.1 posting that might have been tracking down something else nearby. How unclear can that be?

It didn't turn up in my earlier searches, but here's a 1939 reference to Si Perkins Ranch Market at 6321-6329 San Fernando Road, so I think we've found our drive-in.

Excellent! Now can you figure out who had the round drive-in one at Wilshire & Western that appears off to the right of the 1931 photo like the1936 DWP one that ER just posted? The late ‘40’s shot has the newer circular Melody Lane nearer the corner before they expanded to the big complex that may or not have incorporated the older structures into it. And why isn’t there a 1941 image if they were repeating this every five years from that vantage point above?

Found it. It was a Carpenters which W&PA had in their notes as on the NE corner of the intersection. It should be the SW corner and set south a bit. The W&PA images and notations: https://waterandpower.org/museum/Early_LA_Drive_In_Restaurants.html

The one on the NW corner was a McDonnell’s, and that became Stan’s and then around 1964 the usual suspect parking lot for a time.

And, HossC, it does look like a person sitting on the wire to me; it doesn't seem attached to the "birdhouse," but there is the faint outline of a rod or pole the figure might be attached to.

Just when you think you’ve got it all solved, someone has another to complicate it. Here we find the close-up rear view of “Harry Carpenter’s” modern rounded drive-in sitting (?) right where the McDonnell’s was supposed to be on the NW corner of Sunset & Wilshire: https://mredvintagedrive-in-2.blogspot.com/

It’s a rodeo cowboy. Wonder if they used one of those Western theme sets of china in that place?
