The fact remains that the RAV was a dumb example to cite as an excessively large vehicle.

I’ve seen many people driving small to midsize SUVs (including RAV4s) who appear to have difficulty driving them, so not an unreasonable comment (actually seems like an unexpected point to nitpick). As had been happening for decades before the more recent success of the advertising industry in convincing the general public that they “need” an SUV, I expect that most people would do just fine with a sedan or hatchback.
But yes, vehicles have been growing in size and mass since the 1990s, to the point that some have become almost comically large (and thus needing numerous sensors and cameras to assist drivers in not hitting stuff). I witnessed a poor silver-haired lady attempting to maneuver a largish Jeep SUV in a parking lot last week and she was obviously struggling to park it. She eventually gave up and left the parking lot, but happily did not strike anything or anyone in the process.
The moral of the story is that parking lots and street features should be designed with unskilled SUV drivers in mind, as this is our present and our future.
