Unless I am reading it wrong, the B5B zoning they are applying for has height restriction of 4 stories??!! I think they are maybe planning a commercial building for that lot....hope I am totally wrong!!! Maybe someone that understands the zoning better then me can weigh in....

My understanding is that it’s already currently zoned as corridor mixed use (high density with commercial/retail on ground level with the caveat that the building be no higher than 17 floors.

I’d assume they are applying to have the height restriction amended. The original ruling on the height restriction was from 2019 and the city is friendlier toward larger development in corridor areas now. That’s my hunch anyway

Westcliff has a new placeholder website for 608 Broadway that just went live. It says the new zoning will allow for a building not exceeding the original 17 stories.

I drove by the WerkLiv site yesterday and it looks like they’re almost done demo work on the 3 buildings that this new development will replace. Hopefully we see work start on it soon!

Saskatoon group in talks to make future arena land an urban reserve

By Laura Woodward
CTV News
June 23, 2026

A Saskatoon business group is optimistic about a potential partnership that could see the land for the downtown arena become an urban reserve, as the City of Saskatoon explores options with the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation.

An urban reserve is land purchased by a First Nation that’s granted reserve status by the federal government.

Saskatoon business leaders optimistic about potential Indigenous arena partner

By Phil Tank
CBC News
Jun 18, 2026

A Saskatoon business leader says he sees irony in the possibility that a downtown parking lot once rejected as the site for a First Nations-run casino could become an urban reserve with an arena.

North Saskatoon Business Association executive director Keith Moen said Thursday he's feeling renewed optimism about the proposed downtown arena district after hearing about talks between city hall and Muskeg Lake Cree Nation.

Saskatoon board names new high school Holmwood Collegiate

Holmwood Collegiate will be built in northeast Saskatoon, with construction expected to begin next year pending approvals.

SaskToday
Jun 17, 2026

SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Public Schools board of education has approved Holmwood Collegiate as the name of a new high school planned for the city’s northeast sector.

The decision was made during the board’s final meeting of the 2025-26 school year on Tuesday, June 16, marking another step forward for the project.

The high school, announced by the provincial government in 2024, will be built in the Holmwood area, next to the Brighton neighbourhood, and will share a site with a future Catholic high school.

Shovels aren’t yet in the ground, but the future cost of Saskatoon’s new east side leisure centre could reach at least $95 million, according to a new city report.

The building will be located near the new Holmwood Collegiate and Catholic high school just east of the Brighton neighbourhood, with construction expected to begin sometime in 2027.

I believe it’s for sure happening but I’m unaware of the timeline. The road in front of it is ripped up right now

Curious what others think of the Muskeg lake deal with the city. I’m optimistic that it makes DEED more likely to proceed

**** I'm also curious.. haven't driven around there for a few weeks. Certainly lots of housing development happening!****

I'm very hopeful for the possibility. Saskatoon has many successful Urban reserve projects.. Hoping for a partnership.. and believe has a much better chance of happening! (dare I say.. within 5-7years?) Saskatoon Tourism generated nearly $900 million in revenue last year, independent studies project this will generate more than double that.
Once we can get to a commitment, the ideas for pro sports (I'd love Prof. Women's hockey team, eg.) and various larger events may surface..
I believe our city will thrive with a vibrant core... and will support and enhance already fantastic BID's in Riversdale, Downtown, and Broadway.
Saskatoon promotes itself as a winter city.. so I HOPE (in my dreams).. they consider setting up the long forgotten Conservatory within DEED.. for year round appeal for Downtown residents..
I'm also interested in points of view.

Can you tell me what this conservatory plan is/was? I’ve never heard of it!

Maybe breathing life into what seemed very much like a stalled initiative. We need to move this forward at warp speed, however, as costs will only increase with further delays. I just hope it doesn't result in a very scaled back version of the vision.
