Sure sales are up (during the biggest oil shock in decades? All EV sales are up), and I agree it's good to look at the facts, but I don't think it's unreasonable for CC to tentatively point to macro-data that's in the news about the direction Tesla is going that might be relevant to their brick & mortar decision making. The fact that they're shuttering half of their model production is one thing; evidence of their years-long corporate pivot towards self-driving, AI, and non-vehicular robotics is yet another.

And yes, Elon is out of the limelight owing not only to him no longer being an Trump administration advisor but also keeping his mouth shut about US domestic policy (and making jokes about Canada). Instead he's too busy ranting on Twitter about the foreign hordes destroying what remains of the noble Aryan race in Europe.
