Agreed. SAT is not getting a Centurion Lounge. The airport is not busy enough (even after the expansion) and does not have enough premium passengers to warrant this level of lounge.

Article is behind a paywall, but basic info is in the quote. Further down the article it references the 75' wide concourse A as being the main sticking point, so my guess is the agreement will entail some sort of assurance that the concourse will be widened and Southwest being given 10 gates in an all Southwest Concourse... like the original plan. Maybe the airport is agreeing to some pricing concessions for gates and of course accepting rent at the original rate for the months after the previous contract expired? This will be great for the airport and Southwest to have this all in the rearview mirror finally.

Southwest Airlines and San Antonio could be close to settlement over airport gates

Quote:
Southwest and the airport filed a joint request on Friday to formally pause the case pending a deal. The parties said they will file to dismiss the case when the settlement is finalized, which they noted could take “as few as 21 days.” However, the request notes that it “may take somewhat longer” to execute documents that the agreement hinges on.

On Monday, the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to place the case in abeyance — a formal pause or suspension — for 30 days.

It is unclear what terms the parties are close to finalizing in the settlement. An airline spokesman declined answer questions for this article, and airport spokespeople didn’t respond to a request for comment. Both parties been quiet about the status of the talks for months.

Southwest, San Antonio Airport reach settlement over terminal expansion dispute

Quote:
SAN ANTONIO - Southwest Airlines and San Antonio International Airport have reached a settlement ending a long-running dispute over gate access, lease agreements and the airport’s major terminal expansion project.

Under the agreement announced Thursday, Southwest Airlines signed a new Airline Use and Lease Agreement (AULA) guaranteeing the carrier access to at least six gates at San Antonio International Airport.

The agreement solidifies Southwest’s position as the airport’s largest carrier while also ending all pending litigation between the airline and the airport, including cases in federal court and before the Federal Aviation Administration.

Once the airport’s new terminal project is completed, Southwest will operate three gates in the new Terminal C and three gates in the renovated Terminal B, according to the settlement.

Basically Terminal A is just going to be left for the ULCC's and an international carrier or 2? Pretty much all operations outside of what the ground load gates are handling should be moving over to C now. I'd be willing to bet the airport just mothballs or demolishes the north end of A with this deal until they're ready to throw some actually serious cash at replacing it (Thats my hope at least, all of 'A' including the check in hall really needs to be bulldozed). Southwest currently has 6 gates in A, so this maintains their current gate count. My guess is they still have room to grow within that gate count especially with the more roomier holding areas in both B and C, but will need more room in the future (IF they still have plans to grow their flight count out of SAT). This essentially maxes out the leasable gates on B and C now assuming Delta and American are maintaining their gating, save for the international gates which are not leased out to any one airline as they are general use for all international traffic. Maybe the airport opened up one of the international nodes for Delta to take over? Crazy stuff, but very glad the Southwest Saga is FINALLY over and they can move forward.

From this weekend. I don't have any travel booked through SAT until September at the earliest, so if y'all want more updates, get your butts out to the airport! You can actually get some decent pics from outside terminal B in the garages. As I somewhat suspected, they are going to be tying the new terminal into what was gate B1A's waiting area as the walkway in between C and B. Also looking like the ground load gates on A are being utilized well. Sun Country and Frontier both had jets parked at those gates when I landed on Friday.

just curious about the terminal expansion....what is the net gain in total number of gates. I remember reading somewhere a budget terminal has opened that uses air-stairs not jet-bridges. Kinda sorta like the former south terminal.

Yes, thats the the ground load gates I was referencing. They added a net of 2 "gates" (one PLB was sacrificed for the new ground load facility) for a total of 3 ground load gates. Pre-Construction, SAT had a total of 27 gates. Once the new Terminal is complete, along with the ground load facility and pre- terminal A modifications that have yet to be announced, the airport will have a total of 45 gates. Terminal A with 19, B with 8 and the new terminal C with 18. Prior to Southwest and the airport coming to an agreement on gates in the new C and on existing B, it was proposed to reconfigure terminal A down to 10 gates (not including the ground load facility) for southwest, but now that Southwest will be out of Terminal A completely, its unknown if the reconfiguration down to 10 gates will happen or if they'll just leave A with its same gate number to accommodate growth with other airlines.

I can’t wait to have a terminal with some breathing room. As someone who flew out of terminal B every week for a month recently…it was packed to the gills every morning.
