I just got this ad on Facebook. 11 East Point Way is the building with Taco Boyz, Booster Juice, Taste of Egypt, and Vitos.

I am guessing Booster Juice or Taco Boyz is departing to make room?

Mr Mikes Steakhouse is coming to the city. They will be taking over Swiss Chalet’s current location at 86 Consumers Drive after Swiss Chalet moves into their new location under construction at East Point Shopping Center. Mr Mikes will begin construction the week of August 1st and plans to be opening in November 2026.

AllNewBrunswick has an article on the new Swiss Chalet, though I don't have access: Saint John Gets Region's First New-Look Swiss Chalet.

I assume this is where SJ Today got the info from.

Scrolling down their article list, I see a few others -

Developers Think Commercial For Former SJ Fire Hall - Millidgeville, I assume.

Couple Plan Desserterie In SJ Heritage Building - I think this is the one on Germain.

Windoor was only fixing the windows there. I recall a while ago a real estate agent mentioned in a FB comment that Down East Powersports on the west side is moving to there. I think AllNewBrunswick did an article about this too awhile ago confirming it.

Interesting, I wonder what prompted this, that's a big investment!

The Power Store on Loch Lomond did a fairly big expansion this year, too, I noticed when I drove by a month or two ago.

Everyone is complaining that the economy is bad, but if power sports businesses are expanding, it doesn't seem like it.

There has been a for sale sign off and on for the better part of 6 months at Downeast Power Sports.

My City Life is back but with a new business model and name. Now called “Estate Clearance Center”. They are now focused on estate clearance, no longer consignment and thrift. Opening this summer at their new home at 621 Rothesay Avenue.

Dollarama is confirmed for East Point Shopping Centre.

New building permit on the database yesterday "TENANT FIT UP WITH RENOVATIONS - DOLLARAMA" at 32 East Point Way. (Which is next to the new RBC).

So let me get this straight.

There's the one next to PetValu...
The one in Parkway Mall...
The one in McAllister Place..

And now one going in up the hill?

Four locations all in walking distance of one another. That's wild.

And that's not counting the other dollar stores in the same area, like Dollar Tree and Great Canadian.

Fredericton has a similar situation. We have 1 in Corbett Center, one across the street in Regent mall, one slightly down Prospect near the Smythe Street plaza, and one at the bottom of Smythe street. And one further one downtown in King's Place.

Granted the other two (mainly due to the hill) are not as walkable as the first three are, but those 3 are basically a stones throw away and the 4th is just down the hill.

I can't say I am surprised, but I certainly am disappointed. I can't wrap my head around how it is sustainable to have that many stores. Are dollar stores really that profitable?

Don't forget Dollar Tree also opened up recently, so there is even more competition.

Looks like a fun alternative to a place like Pita Pit for those seeking healthier quick-service options!

The advertisement is now installed onto the construction walls for Miniso at McAllister Place. Located in the former Just Cozy spot across from RW&CO. https://miniso-ca.com/
