City Market on Granville and Broadway opens June 28th. I don't know runs their socials but the visuals and stuff they use are awful, looks very amazteur and it makes me question if its really their page or not, it looks very scammy and the last few weeks the posts have looked really cheap and lacking any real information, but now it says they will open June 28th, so perhaps its real.

The sign on the window last week said Grand Opening 8am January 26th. Vancouver is Awesome printed the same date two days ago. It's possible they've had to push it back a couple of days, so have had to throw something up quickly.

I think all the CityMarket/No Frills-type stores that are "owner operated" and their social media.

Nah.. they have a lot of followers on socials and have had a lot of giveaways and funny posts. I think it's a City Market thing... Dave at The Post has been active on Socials since before that store opened.

FYI - they open on the 26th... confirmed via their socials.

Ron.

ah I wasn't sure, I was going from memory.

In other retail news SportChek at Lougheed Mall is closing, last days in July I read. A person who commented on the post said they were told that that location is having staffing issues and that's why they are closing. It never looks busy, its a big space to fill, that poor mall is always full of people who don't go in the stores.

I worry for the future, retail has it tough as people live and shop on the internet, and we are running out of places to just hang out and "don't go in the stores". I wonder what things will look like in a decade?

Lululemon's Oakridge Park new store design

Quote:
The Oakridge Park store is among the first locations built under lululemon’s new “Playbook 2.0” design standard, which introduces a softer and more locally inspired design language.

“This design is part of our new Playbook 2.0 design standard,” said Jay Park, Senior Store Designer at lululemon. “This is one of the first stores that we’re building in this new design language.”

According to Park, the concept draws heavily from the landscapes and culture of the Pacific Northwest. Rather than relying on sharp angles and rigid forms, the store incorporates curved fixtures and architectural elements intended to create a sense of flow throughout the space.

“We take inspiration from the Pacific Northwest, from the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest,” said Park. “We’re trying to bring in soft forms, we’re trying to bring in warmth, and we’re trying to bring in flow.”

Those ideas are visible throughout the store. Curved tables, display fixtures, hanging rails and fitting room entrances create a softer visual experience while maintaining clear sightlines across the sales floor. The approach contributes to the open feeling that stands out when moving through the space.

Natural materials also play a central role. Wood fixtures, plaster wall treatments, terrazzo flooring and textured finishes reinforce the connection to the region.

One of the most distinctive elements is a wall treatment inspired by Vancouver’s North Shore mountains.

“We’ve got a beautiful raked pattern on the wall behind the tank fixture, and that is a nod to the North Shore mountains,” said Park. “We’re trying to bring the peaks and the valleys from the North Shore mountains into our stores and to our guests.”

Park said the design reflects both the brand’s identity and the Pacific Northwest lifestyle that helped shape lululemon from its earliest days.

“The movement speaks to our brand, but it also speaks to this culture in the Pacific Northwest where it’s about wellbeing and it’s about nature,” he said.

Long-time Vancouver chocolatier Purdys is now coast-to-coast with the opening of their first stores in the Maritimes:

B.C.'s Purdys goes coast-to-coast with first stores east of Ontario
Venerable 119-year-old retailer aims to create a marketing buzz by opening four stores at once
Glen Korstrom

Fresh from opening a store at the new Oakridge Park shopping centre in Vancouver, one of B.C.'s oldest retailers is expanding its footprint to new Canadian provinces.

The Vancouver-based, 119-year-old Purdys Chocolatier is readying to open its first four stores in Canada's Maritime provinces: two in Nova Scotia and two in New Brunswick with all set to open in September.

That would bring Purdys' store count to 88, and include its first stores east of Ontario.

Two more stores are set to open in Ontario later this year, bringing the company to 90 stores, its president, Lawrence Eade told Business in Vancouver Monday, June 15....

My Grandparents and Great Grandparents knew the Purdy’s, my great Grandfather had a shop on Granville, and my Grandfather was an ophthalmologist in the Vancouver Block.

The Blanche MacDonald retail space (Curlique) on Robson at Homer (SW corner) is up for lease. Sign says there's a new entrance at 825 Homer, which is the same building. So it looks like they only vacated the ground floor and kept the 2nd floor facing Robson.

Thanks!
There was a staircase from ground to the 2nd level, so that's the slab fill-in work.

The spaces formerly occupied by Swarovski and Ecco Shoes (1000-block Robson) seem to be transforming into a single unit -- my pix today, June 19
