Beautiful Chicago skyline same goes for Toronto too the Islands really are a nice asset.
Some recent Detroit photos from the grand opening of the Ralph C Wilson park on the west riverfront at the foot of the CBD. Kind of a bummer the original design wasn't followed more closely the project did have some major issues behind the scenes. That a board member stole 200k is the biggest corruption scandal in a long time.
Still even if the potential has been somewhat diminished from the original concept it's a big win for Detroiters after the rail dockyards closed the lands around the still active port facilities and logistics yards was pretty bad. More riverfront access for Detroiters is the real win West Riverfront Park is open after renovations as well a win for urban enthusiasts too getting some new skyline shot angles.
I posted these and more over on Found Detroit but they're good shots of the new west riverfront set up so I figured why not post a select few on the GL cities thread. Hope Stanton Yards is still moving forward it would be great to have a naturalized waterfront outside of Bell Isle. Little Village specifically Cadillac Blvd north of Jefferson has a lot of potential there's been some good civic work done on the old church would suck if it stalled.

As far as enjoying a Great Lake in the Detroit area goes Belle Isle is great especially in June when the big water is cold but late June - early July Huron is warming up nice easy spot for some proper beach camping at the state park outside of town but Port Huron has some legit state park and beach just outside of downtown by the bridge.
Have to say having Lake St Clair and the St Clair River put in such esteemed paddling company as Tahoe, Boundary Waters, Superior, Bear Lake UT is dope. I mean it's some random sports blog but none the less I have to agree that part of the region is very nice and especially Harson's Island would offer some interesting unique opportunities.
Personally I dig that the old UAW retreat that was the site of the Port Huron Declaration is a state park appropriate that piece of land serves a common good for the people. The Canadian side of the Southern Tip of Lake Huron is nicer like SW MI & NW IN have dunes with the prevailing winds doing their thing a bummer that The Pinery Provincial Park if I recall correctly doesn't allow booze.
