Yes, Normal is awesome and would do very well here.

walked by the boarded up 7-11 on Dunsmuir today and it really hit home, sad to see things going backwards in this city and thinking how a different governmental philosophy in general would see things so much better here than they have been trending in the last decade

Government isn't responsible for 7-11 closing on Dunsmuir. "7-Eleven's North American operator plans to close 645 stores in the 2026 fiscal year" - that's in the US and Canada. They're also closing 350 stores in Japan, 18 in Australia, 30 in Beijing, China, 25 in Tianjin, China and 10 in Chengdu, China.

Across the 86,000 stores the company still operates around the world "Seven & i expects its revenue to fall 9.4 per cent for the current fiscal year". The closures mark the fifth year in a row when 7-Eleven shuttered more stores than it opened.

Last year, North America revenues were down 10% to $50 billion and operating income took an even steeper dive, down over 20% to $1.4 billion. They're trying to get the business into better financial shape to list it on the stock market, so closing anything under-performing.

Interesting that Couche-Tard was rebuffed when it tried to acquire 7-Eleven, considering it seems to be in some financial trouble.

being one of the 645 out of 85,000 certainly points to there being a problem which is definitely the fault of governments, federal and provincial, if it were a profitable location without extreme shoplifting problems and disorder around scaring customers away it wouldn't be closing

I'm more sad about the Railway Club remaining closed than a 7-Eleven…

7-11 is so expensive now, I think they have priced any size Slurpee at the same price of $2.50? Seems like a dumb idea to me.

Has Ferragamo on Robson closed now? anyone know?

It's not 645 out of 85,000, it's 645 out of 12,000 (in North America). The company also closed the store across the street from Kensington Park at 33rd Avenue and Knight Street. Last year they closed one on the corner of Kingsway and Royal Oak in Burnaby, and the year before at Canada Way and Edmonds Street, also in Burnaby. The company have been closing stores across the Lower Mainland.

Agreed. If anything neighbourhoods should celebrate the closing of them as they are disorder magnets. I’m not sure why Daily Hive goes on wailing-fest every time one closes. Circle K seems much better merchandised and run.

It says permanently closed on Google Maps. Reliance is leasing it out but I guess their hotel could happen at any time...

It could be a while before there's a market for 176 strata units Downtown. They could 'do a Wall' and lease them out, but the economics of the project would be a bit different. The proposal hasn't been rezoned yet, so that's also a factor.

ok thanks, I imagine they will do better now in Oakridge, from numerous videos I've watched this evening, you could see shoppers inside their store, I don't really remember their Robson store had people other than staff inside.

Coach is like "affordable luxury" (its also not that cheap)

Someone may want a Chanel/LV bag but can't afford it yet - so they get a Coach and keep saving/working hard...

one day - they return and buy their dream bag

I guess the tough part is their current location is huge and probably very cheap rent.

They're actually doing pretty well recently.

Quote:
Tapestry raised its annual earnings targets on Thursday for a second time after strong demand for its Tabby handbags helped the affordable luxury retailer comfortably beat holiday-quarter estimates.

Shares of the company rose about 5 percent before the bell.

Affluent Gen Z customers have been snapping up Tabby handbags, priced between $295 and $725, boosting sales for the company’s Coach brand when rivals such as Michael Kors have struggled to attract discerning shoppers.

Coach revenue surged 25 percent to $2.14 billion in the second quarter, beating estimates of a growth of 14.5 percent, according to data compiled by LSEG.

No rent. They just sold the building.
