They have sort of a rusty 70s metal balcony appearance up close and the greenery in a lot of the renderings seems unrealistic. I think they're pretty unattractive compared to most new highrises in Vancouver. However, I'm happy that density is going in on that side of False Creek and I think it's important for indigenous people to have access to good quality urban housing. One of the problems in BC is that there are far-flung reserve areas that are hard to live in and if people want to move to the city they end up with limited supports. I hope the benefits from developments like this are shared widely, and there aren't heavy winners and losers depending on heredity or status.

Man, the density in downtown Vancouver is rolling. If you quickly glance the photo it could be mistaken for Tokyo.

From some quick research, the Squamish Nation and architects chose a distinct burnt ochre/copper to honor Coast Salish artistic traditions, weaving elements that resemble a woven cedar basket. Colour is always going to controversial i can see how it's not to everyone's taste.

You can see there how up close they are thin metal balcony railings.

This tends to get framed as cultural sensitivity but really it's postmodernism, a European and American cultural tradition, that incorporates these pastiches in larger forms of the buildings but doesn't allow for ornamentation that could probably be more attractive and fit traditional styles more. If you want indigenous art for example you can add some art to the building itself, like tile patterns or carvings, or art in the lobby, or whatever. You don't have to make the whole building look like an abstract version of a basket. But moving beyond that seems to be very difficult given the modern culture of Western architecture.

I think those look better and more texturally interesting than the typical banded glass balconies we've become used to, and it adds a nice rusty hue to an otherwise conventional blue glass facade. That style of metal railing is also very trendy right now.
