I assumed it was because he's a local MP, and his role in the government doesn't relate to whatever they're announcing.

Curious how there isn't going to be a provincial representative present. What could be announced by the City of Vancouver and federal government alongside Translink but without the province in or around False Creek?

Something port related? Granville Island related? There definitely isn't enough time to revive the Olympic Line for FIFA, or is there?

Or, perhaps the city succeeded in convincing the federal government that the UBC Skytrain is a project of national interest?

As the announcement is at Cooper's Park, I thought it might be related to a contribution to the seismic work on Cambie Bridge that's now in Phase 2 until 2028, with more to come after that. The City applied for $84m from Canada's Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund.

The newer stations that comes with full-height PSD are built with much wider platforms.
Narrow platforms are a reason to have PSD rather than to not have them because such platforms are more dangerous in the case of crowding and there's a risk of people falling or being pushed. And PSD can actually provide more space, depending on how they're implemented, since they can be right on the edge of the platform and people can get right up to the doors rather than people having to stand back behind a yellow or blue line for safety. The doors can take less space than a safety buffer zone when there's no barrier.

Seems strange Translink is involved for a municipal road project announcement?

The media advisory was from Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada, which I assumed wasn't necessarily a transportation initiative (unless it's active transportation). We should know any time now...

The Cambie Street Bridge is part of the Major Road Network so Translink funding is available.

And it is the seismic upgrade to the bridge.

"The federal government is investing $84.4 million in this project through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF). TransLink is contributing $37 million, with potential additional future funding, and the City of Vancouver is responsible for the remaining project costs."

Huge thanks for posting this. I’ve been waiting long time!
Some numbers are very interesting and hard to explain. Roughly Surrey Central
2023 5m
2025 6m
2026 down to 5m
This is possibly the highest drop in boardings on the entire system
While King George barely changed since 2023

The most I’ve been waiting was Burquitlam station, in 2025 they rent so many towers completed yet, but numbers still look positively good
2023 - 1,449,000
2024 - 1,570,000
2025 - 1,622,000
Hopefully breakfast with him can do 1.7 million in 2026, since the model balance will be completed.

No problem. Surrey Central received a huge boost in 2024 because King George was closed for six weeks so a massive drop in 2025 was to be expected.

Took me a minute to realize that 'breakfast with him' was the autocorrect for Burquitlam - lol (thought it was some breakfast place I hadn't heard about at first). I wouldn't be surprised if it makes 1.7mn in 2026, I use that station fairly often and it gets busier all the time as buildings complete.

Autocorrect from Burquitlam?

Interesting to see that the Canada Line held steady numbers and the Expo/Millennium Line decreased, but the West Coast Express seems to be booming with an 11% ridership increase last year. Is this just a bunch of unhappy people being RTOed after moving to the countryside during COVID who might soon be moving back closer to work or is this real growth?

I suppose it was going to be a given that 2025 numbers for the Expo/Millennium Line were going to crash due to the student visa massacre so it's nice to see it only revert to 2023 numbers. Can't wait to see the bus report to see if the major student bus routes (49, 99, R6, etc.) correlate.

The drastic drop for Surrey Central could likely be explained by the fact that a lot of the foreign student and TFW population left the country in 2025. Not surprised that Scott Road, 22nd Street Station and Metrotown saw a decent drop as well.

Pictures of our first Trollino 18.

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/translin...olley-bus-solaris-trollino-pilot-testing

Quoting TL they say currently the order will be for 143 40’ and 92 60’ and that deliveries following the pilot buses will start in 2028.

The extra door at the very rear of the bus is a huge improvement. Tempers flare during rush hour when people are trying to fight their from the back to exit the bus. I wonder if there is any improvements to how the doors open and close. When the bus is packed, the doors swinging inwards are a bit of a problem.
