Suspect faces four charges in Vancouver West End vehicle rampage
A suspect with a lengthy history of police interactions in B.C. and Saskatchewan has been charged after a vehicle rampage in Vancouver’s West End on Friday that put a person riding a mobility scooter in hospital,
Tadd Bali, 34, has been charged with four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and is in custody, Vancouver Police Const. Darren Wong said Tuesday.
At about 5:30 a.m. on May 15, a person was spotted driving erratically near Comox and Broughton streets, plowing through the Nelson Park off-leash dog area, then hitting a senior on a motorized scooter.
The scooter rider remains in hospital and has been upgraded from critical to serious condition, said Wong.
The driver was finally arrested after ramming a police vehicle. Two VPD officers were injured, including a recruit on his second day of work. Both were released from hospital later Friday.
Wong said Bali “has had extensive interactions with police in B.C. and in Saskatchewan.”
Police said the motive was unclear but cited possible mental health problems and drug use.
