Beautiful May long weekend however - wall to wall sunshine and temperatures up to 26C.

Oh trust me, I will be there! I was in the building when the Kelowna Rockets won the Memorial Cup here in Kelowna as the host team in 2004, what an experience that was.

19C and mainly cloudy with some sunny breaks this afternoon. Still a cooler than normal day. But hey at least it's within what can be expected. I snapped the same pic as last's year as a comparison. Vegetation is at least 2 weeks behind.

The swamp near the aptly named Swamp Road. I have a lot of history with this swamp. As a kid, I used to find all manner of animals roaming the swamp grass.




















My friend just moved into his new house in West Kelowna. His old house was burnt down during the 2023 Westside Rd. fires. He's got some amazing views from the second floor.

17C and sunny in Moncton at noontime, going up to 21C this afternoon. It feels positively summery out.

Wildcats sadly blew a 4-1 lead early in the third period last night, and ended up losing 7-6. Chicoutime scored six straight goals to put the crowd of 8600 fans at the Avenir Centre into a state of shock. It's been a long, long time since I have seen such a collapse.

The series isn't over yet, but, I have lost hope. The Cats will have to win two straight games to get to the Memorial Cup, and I just don't think it's gonna happen.

"Extreme weather event' is an exaggeration. There are people in the world who are faced with drought, flooding, hurricanes, etc and our last 8 months are inconsequential in comparison.

Maybe the last 8 months would have been more 'normal' if it wasnt' for climate change much of which is caused by humanity.

The pure length of the anomaly makes it insane. March 2012 and June 2021 saw out of the world anomaly but this was over 2 weeks at most. The extreme shorter temperatures meant that it was all over the news.

The last 8 months we've had are not so interesting to talk about because the daily anomalies were never as extreme as other event. However the fact this is ongoing for such a long period of time makes it much more impressive than the others.

Started with a record breaking snowfall in early November. The earliest start to winter in a lot of people's lifetime. We then followed that up with 5 straight below normal months which in a warming world is very significant. April ended up above normal but it was because of the mild weather early in the month. The last 3 weeks were still crappy and colder than normal. And now this May has been absurd.
So we had the earliest start to winter and now the latest spring in many people's lifetime. With a cold winter in between. It's too much.

We were supposed to get over 20C today for a high temperature. Likely not happening now.

If it doesn’t happen, today marks the 209th consecutive day Toronto hasn’t had a day over 20 degrees for a high temperature (since mid-October). The last day AT 20 degrees was April 14th - an incredibly unusual run of 32 straight spring days without it happening.

A thoroughly dark run for spring weather in the history of my life, anyway.

I'm pretty sure it's been over 20 in Toronto this year.

Nevertheless, the last few weeks have been very cool. A month ago we had temps in the mid-20s and the first 20+ day was over two months ago, March 10.

We're now halfway through May and my station's temperatures averages are lower than April's. We're basically having April twice in a row, for the second year in a row.

Iy got up to 25C this afternoon in Moncton, and is still 17C out at 11 PM.

I have a heat pump in my house that automatically switches between heating and cooling modes as necessary to maintain a constant internal temperature in the house. I just went up to my upstairs loft to go on the computer, and my A/C is on upstairs.

Has your A/C been on yet this year Nicko???

Haha, those kind of temperatures are window open, heat pump off kind of weather. I normally don't put the A/C on until the high reaches 28C with some humidity.
