I wonder what the purpose of those 3+1 storm drains being grouped together on the station side.

They're working on the sidewalks next to the Lee Building. No tar on the one section but they've also removed all the fencing along Main so something might be happening later.

They better hurry up, it’s week #16 since the complete road closure. I’m counting every week before I go to bed each night! 😄

It will open to traffic during the night of the 19th (a week short of four months ) so seven full days of work left.

I wonder how many of the businesses that are currently on that block will survive. The foot traffic from the subway, plus the potential for a large patio space will make it difficult for businesses like a furniture store and a book store to survive in such a premium location.

I would imagine lots of restaurants would want in those spaces, given the synergies already in place. I would consider Mt. Pleasant to be the restaurant capital of Vancouver. I say bring it.

Think they will re-open the road before the sidewalks are usable?

They just need to maintain the current temporary sidewalks and the crosswalk to reopen the road. I doubt the section of sidewalk in front of the station opens until the summer.

Not sure if the rain on Friday will impact the schedule.

Surface course paving the WB lanes at Main today.

Traffic deck removal progress at Oak.

Granville update:
Quote:
This spring, the future South Granville Station is entering a new phase, as the relocation of utilities and construction of
the ventilation shafts and emergency exit nears completion. Crews will begin backfilling activities at Granville Street and
Broadway, followed by traffic deck removal this summer. W. Broadway will remain open throughout traffic deck
removal work, with one lane in each direction being maintained as crews rebuild the roadway. Backfilling is the process
of filling the space between the underground station roof and the surface with gravel. The total volume of backfill at
South Granville would be equivalent to more than 2 million FIFA-size soccer balls, enough to completely fill the
Vancouver's iconic Science World dome, highlighting the scale of these critical infrastructure works.

During the vehicle closure, crews completely removed the traffic deck, backfilled from the station roof to street level, installed new permanent utilities below the street and built the new road surface. Ten steel girders and 44 road panels were lifted by crane onto flatbed trucks during traffic deck removal. In total, just under 10,000 cubic metres of backfill material was added on top of the new underground SkyTrain Station to fill the space between the roof and the roadway above. See below for some photos of the work.

E. Broadway will be open to one lane in each direction as work to complete roadworks continues. In July, Broadway will reopen to four lanes, at which point most of the fences that run along the street will be removed, and the sidewalk on the south side of Broadway reconnected between Main and Quebec streets. Construction will continue at the station entrance on the southwest corner of Broadway and Main Street.

Once the final streetscape improvements are complete, this block of Broadway will feature four lanes of traffic, wider sidewalks, new street furniture, and trees. There will be dedicated right-turn lanes on Broadway at Main Street.
Quote:
The situation at each station site is unique, and each site requires a customized approach to complete this phase of work while minimizing impacts on the surrounding community and the travelling public. The Broadway Subway Project team analyzed different options at each of the stations to find the best approach for each site. There are many factors that go into this decision, including the width of the roadway, traffic volumes on Broadway and nearby cross streets, the feasibility of transit detours around the site and the impact of the work on nearby residents and businesses.
Quote:
At Oak-VGH and Arbutus stations, one lane in each direction will be maintained on W. Broadway throughout the work. Crews are constructing temporary supports for the roadway underneath the traffic deck. With the traffic deck safely supported, one half of the structure can be removed while traffic is maintained on the other half. Once the roadway has been restored on one side of Broadway, traffic will flip to the other side of the street, and the process will be repeated. The temporary pedestrian walkways will also be replaced as sidewalks are reinstated.
