How long has the Lost Lagoon fountain been switched off, and when will it be switched back on? That high plume of water, caught in a breeze on a sunny day, was so captivating.

Ten years. It won't be switched back on - the control room flooded, the pump blew and its replacement (then) were estimated at $7m.

The recently approved plan now is to raise the funds to dredge some of the sediment and allow the Lagoon to once again be flushed with salt water, by linking it to both English Bay and Burrard Inlet. (Originally it was a mud flat, just linked to Burrard Inlet).

Andy Livingstone Field - resurfacing

Today, Mar 23, 2026 - Installing a tall fence and grading of the baseball field continues.
That tall fence I believe will be next to a new pathway that separates the baseball feild from the soccer fields.

Yeah both are listed to open in Q3 but some other report said one of the fields was going to open in the spring.

In late spring would be great news for the softball or/and baseball leagues, if they have done sign ups for the upcomming season.

Not sure if anyone else was aware, but apparently the BCNDP quietly renamed all BC Provincial parks at some point removing "Provincial" from their names.
https://bcparks.ca/find-a-park/

From internet archive, I was able to narrow down the renaming sometime between 2023 and 2025.

2023: Mount Edziza Provincial Park https://archive.is/FC7eY
2026: Mount Edziza Park https://bcparks.ca/mount-edziza-park

They've now started replacing signage to the new names, Cypress Provincial Park is now Cypress Park. I have my suspicions for the reasons behind this change and I don't think it's a good one.

What's bannable about it? Joffre Lakes Provincial Park and Nuchatlitz Provincial Park have both had management or full ownership transferred from the province to indigenous groups. It would not be surprising to me if other formerly "Provincial" parks were getting ready for that treatment.

Mount Edziza Park appears to have been legally named as such since at least 2000: https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/00017_05#Cmountedziza

It looks like all other parks in that statute also legally do not use “Provincial” in their names. So for Mount Edziza it looks like the renaming was for accuracy.

I’m not sure about the history of Cypress Provincial Park but it seems reasonable to rename it Cypress Park for consistency. Also this regulation refers to Cypress Provincial Park as “Cypress Park” and the relevant section was last revised in 2009: https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/180_90_01

Take it for what it’s worth but I think it’s a whole bunch of nothing

I'm not saying you're wrong but it looks like this act was amended 5 times between 2024 and 2025 with 4 amendments to schedule C. The original act was tabled in 2000 but acts get regularly amended so it could have been changed any time between 2000 and today. I tried looking up archived versions of this act and I can't seem to find the version before amendments.

Does this seem outrageously high to most forumers? Are they just trying to scare voters off by floating the higher figure?

Survival of Kitsilano Pool could cost up to $300 million
By Jan Schuermann
Posted May 4, 2026 4:11 pm.

Vancouver officials released the results of a feasibility study on Monday to repair or replace Kitsilano Pool, which has reached the end of its functional life.

North America’s longest outdoor pool, which opened in its current shape in 1979, has been facing several deteriorating components over the last few years, which caused the pool not to open at all in 2024 and delayed opening in 2025....

...Each option comes with different budgets and expected lifespans for the pool, with the most expensive one proposing a complete replacement of the facility, calculating costs at $230 – $300 million.

The two cheaper options would be less invasive, pitching either a renovation of the existing facility at an expected cost of $90 million or merely repairing the malfunctioning elements of Kitsilano Pool for approximately $40 million...
