A friend of mine wanted to see this place, one of the places in Los Angeles he's never visited, nor have I, and so I agreed to go with him. They have small tours
you can register for and a few weeks ago on a beautiful day we did it. We first walked around Echo Park through the dozens of geese that were playing around
there that day.
There were 10-12 people in the tour and an extremely knowledgeable gentlemen told us a myriad of things about Aimee we'd never heard before. The
tour starts in the upper right (curved) section of the photo above, at the walkway. This was Aimee's house. She lived there and the two-story place is
furnished as it was in the 1930s with mostly her original belongings and furniture and, in the kitchen, appliances. The rooms are packed with her
belongings, wardrobe, mementos and photographs.
The last part of the tour was in the temple, which is still used occasionally. It's original, but feels quite modern in it's design. No matter where you sat Aimee
wanted you to be able to see so sight lines were designed as such. We were quite impressed. She was a very sincere woman who actually helped a lot of
people in her day, during the depression, and is still known world wide. A couple of the people in our tour group were from Africa. Most of what I knew
about her is from newsreels and a couple movies and the exaggerated side of her life. I have to say I was quite impressed; as I mentioned the guide was
exceptional. We were the first two of the group to arrive and as we got to that sidewalk you see in the photo leading to the house, he opened the door and
came out to greet us.
