I didn't see anything mentioned for the old Office Depot, but Crain's just reported that a family real estate company is planning to develop 219-233 W. Ontario. No details on what they have in mind

Good news, that corner is such an eyesore.

Does anyone know what the existing structure was (or was going to be)? I seem to remember hearing it was a failed steakhouse, but that was like 15 years ago.

That is good news. This stretch is so dismal. I feel like what Ontario really needs in this area is a road diet, but I know it feeds into the Kennedy, so that's probably a non starter.

Most recently, it was a series of nightclubs for D-bags.

Off topic, but that could potentially work if they resequenced the traffic lights or went with smart signals. Right now, green lights often dump rush hour traffic into red lights, and inattentive drivers block the intersections.

"Inattentive"; that's very generous of you!

Is this for both buildings or just the first one?

102M most likely just means one.

I believe the eastern tower is to start construction first, the west tower would be a phase 2

Glad 400 Elizabeth finally scored a loan. I feel like they've had their permits for ages.

Some beautiful new footage from Devodare_Chicago showing the U/C Bally's casino complex, 400 LSD, and 370 N Morgan-- and also the recently completed 919 W Fulton, Aberdeen Crossing, 220 N Ada, Flora, Cassidy on Canal, and others.

Thanks ToastyJoe for linking the video over in the casino thread!

Oh sweet, after 5959 N Sheridan got scaled down to 12 stories, it got a height bump and is being split into three towers: 23 stories, 13 stories, and 11 stories

Definitely an improvement—and it's nice to see the pedestrian experience considered/prioritized.

NIMBYs will hate it regardless lol

Just wanted to point out all the major long awaited projects in Chicago that have quietly commenced after years/decades.

Spire Site/400 N Lakeshore Dr developed after 15+ years of Spire stalling
The 78 - Chicago Fire Stadium recently broke ground
United Center Project 1901 has recently begun construction - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KchAsKW4pAo
O'Hare Concourse D broke ground last fall and just went vertical last week
Casino rapidly moving towards completion
Halsted Point now just broke ground

Some of these being almost jokes as they never seemed to move. Nice to see Chicago getting some of these monkeys off its back.

Hoping for more exciting news in 2026!

You could probably add OPC to that list as well. It's been in the planning phases since at least 2014.

Hoping Michael Reese is the next long-stalled site to take a step forward.

Wow I didn't realize it had been that long.

And it's been under construction since 2021 incredibly. Feels like forever. The fact that it's finally finishing is satisfying.

I'm wondering if it will have an effect on tourism or further development on the South Side.

I haven't heard of it spurring much nearby development. Does anyone know of some?
