The idea of the skyline stretching all the way to UC used to seem so far fetched.

I couldn't revive the 1000M thread, but check it out-- they finally completed the streetwall-extension-thing (that the Zoning Committee legally mandated due to the Historic Michigan Boulevard District, if I remember correctly):

Only took em 2 years lol. I was starting to wonder if the city was gonna penalize them for not following through on this weird little thing.

^^^I saw it the other day I was down there. Honestly as long as it was taking to get installed I was hoping that they had commissioned a piece of art to go on it instead.

Now I also wonder how many more years it will take to put back together the corner of the terracotta building to the south.

This is dispicable. If they were going to satarize the streetwall requirement like this, they should have just subbed it out to someone who actually gives a shit and respects agreements. Weren't they given FAR for this tower? Only to seemingly wantonly put up something this pathetic and minimally sufficient.

It was a really odd solution born out of the city's Michigan streetwall rules and a good faither effort by the developer to create some physical distance between the tower and residential building to the north. I still think it's funny how a couple of neighbors have to stare directly at the screening.

Yeah I'm really excited to see what happens to west and south loop over the next 2 decades, they're close to downtown with great access to public transit. And an underrated thing that helps is that existing lots are already pretty large (and not split between 50 rowhomes) which should make building easier.

This area also has a lot of highway and rail infrastructure (which currently hinders development) - I'm curious to see if we'll get any Hudson Yards style developments down the road, or even just smaller public infrastructure projects like parks, however I am a bit worried about Chicago's fiscal future so we'll see.

I've been awaiting the Tower of Wendy's ever since Tower of Pizza Hut went up. It's only a matter of time...

There's also the sale that was tried of the properties just south of the tower and Division and Ashland (not sure anything came of it but it was listed several times) and then the former used car lot just south of the popeyes.

Given the abysmal state of Wendy's, it might be sooner than later - What the Hell Happened to Wendy's

Has anyone heard of a mixed use development being planned for the old Office Max at Grand and Orleans. Apparently, there was some info on CoStar.

What an abysmal site for a place to live, though -- right near the warm embrace of the twin vehicle pig troughs of Ohio and Ontario. What an absolute crotch of a spot. The free reign of vehicle assaultants wantonly terrorizing the roads with the most hell-on-earth noise, doing so completely unchecked/unenforced/uncared-about, precluding any semblance of peace or restful sleep (though maybe the CO and weed fumes from all the cars will lull them aslumber...).

*Office Depot. Haven't heard anything, but it's about damn time. I hope the Ald. forces the developer to sink more money into the Ohio Place Dog Park as part of any PD.

The exhaust fumes and noise will indeed suck, but those feeder ramps are already flanked by multi-unit residential use.

Not sure where exactly to post this question, but is there something going on with 311 South Wacker? I've noticed over the past month that the infamous bright crown lighting has been off.........
