All this guy had to do was learn a couple of lines of French in his pre-recorded speech. He couldn't even be assed to do it. The AC PR team is —. They should have held up phonetic phrases on a whiteboard for the guy until he got it. Maybe that was his golden parachute, who the hell knows. "Guys, I am so tired of trying to learn this language, just buy me out.."

That honour goes to another Air Canada manager/exec - who is trilingual like me, and is perfectly fluent in english and french - and who has held a role in AC's network and fleet strategy since 2004. His name is Mark Galardo.

Rousseau has done nothing for Quebec, and cleary doesn't give 2 shits about Quebec or its language.
Why does he have to ? Air Canada is NOT a social justice organization its a Revenue generating Company that happens to carry the Canadian flag Internationally and have its Head Quarters in Montreal. An International City.
It earns most of its revenue outside of Quebec and besides Quebec has more that one Airline in Air Transit or Air Creebec.

The last fifty years of Social Justice is rapidly coming to an end as the present PM is setting the tone with a very different set of priorities, For God sakes the man bought 65,402 AR 15 derived assault Rifles last week. He Reduced Trudeau's Women's issues department from 486 Million per year to under 80 Mill. On track to become a serious Medium Military power that MUST make Quebecers very uncomfortable. Tough. Get on board or get run over.

AC adds:

YUL/YYZ to TFS/RTB
YUL-SDQ/AUA
YYZ-MID
YVR-MZT/LIR/MTY/PXM

+ a bunch of other sun routes from YYC/YEG/YQB/YWG/YHZ for W26.

Tenerife flights will be with the A321XLR. West coast sun flights will surely be Rouge.

This isn't some social justice issue. It's about respecting the law. TS and Creebec aren't bound by the Offical Languages Act. Air Canada is. The CEO of AC, on occasion, speaks directly to customers. When he is exercising that particular function - which he clearly was 2 weeks ago - he should be speaking in both official languages. All that was required was a few sentences of french. That's it. He couldn't even deliver on that.

And yet, the very same PM you speak of had this to say about Rousseau's speech...

...and about his retirement.

Indeed, all YWG and west flights are the Rouge 7M8, the one exception being YVR-MTY on the 223. All the new flights YYZ and east are on the 223, the one exception to that rule being YHZ-BGI on the Rouge 7M8.

Makes sense, as YHZ-BGI optimal routing requires ETOPS 75 min+, and the A223 doesn't have that. If it did, it would have been a better fit for the route.

Is that required for the portion between YHZ and Bermuda? If it's the portion south of BDA that requires ETOPS 75+, I guess that the new YQB-PTP will need to take a suboptimal route since it's on the 223?

I don't care for Rousseau and think he brought this entire thing on himself, but you've gotta be kidding me here. YUL has grown incredibly under his leadership, far beyond any other hub.

It's ironic that he quit over Quebec because he was kinder to YUL than any other airport in the AC system.

I wonder if this means the MTY flight is more of a normal flight and less of a sun flying flight. I expect AC would try to push this one to year round to take advantage of the financial industry strength of MTY.

It was 5 years since he becomes CEO of AC. Maybe it's just simply his time is up, as previous CEO all served 5 years term?

I'm still not sure if splitting the frequency between YYZ and YUL is a good idea. Like starting TFS as 1/2x weekly rather than a single 3x weekly route. It's probably OK since TFS is targeting leisure, but if it's a business route, then it'll probably hurt? But then AC would probably know more than me...

It's almost like how VN have to split new long-hual services to serve both HAN and SGN...

The timing of the MTY flight suggest it try to feed into the Asia departure bank to Japan and Korea.

The other YVR adds are either morning or late night targeting leisure and utilization.

There is very little "business" demand to Tenerife. TFS is a leisure destination by a wide margin.

It's also a winter seasonal route, meaning brutal headwinds on the westbound back to Canada. It might be a challenge for the Max 8 on certain days. So that is the most likely reason why the XLR is planned. Not because of business demand.

No. I'm not kidding.

Like I said, Rousseau's background was in finance. He's not the one who decided to expand flights out of YUL. Had he not moved to AC in 2007, AC would have started expanding flights out of YUL just the same. In fact, I believe the expansion had already started before he arrived. YUL-FCO was added around 2005, if my memory serves. That was the beginning. Before then, all AC had out of YUL to Europe was LHR, CDG and FRA.

Not TFS in particular, but some of the recent adds including CPH, ARN, and every S American destinations other than GRU, etc.

Some of them like ARN did get combined into a single route through, showing how splitting the frequency didn't work out well.

If CEO does not agree with whatever the company's direction going forward, would it still go ahead?

It's required to fly southeast of Bermuda.

YQB-PTP will most likely be flown with the Max 8 as well. Surprised it's loaded with the A223. YQB-FDF is flown with the Max 8, so PTP will most likely be the same, or else yes, it will need to take a circular route in order to stay within 60 minutes diversion time from an airport during the entire flight.

Something along the lines of this....

http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=yqb-ptp%2C+...nm%40rdu&MS=wls&DU=mi&E=60&EV=397&EU=kts

It's a 10% increase in flight distance. Hence why I think the Max will end up flying the route.

Thanks for the insight!

Indeed it's now on the mainline 7M8. I could have sworn it was the 223 when I checked earlier but maybe I'm losing it. Though it's a mainline 7M8 and not Rouge which is interesting.

Edit: it is still a 223, I was looking at YUL-PTP.
