Any idea what's in the bulkhead on the side? Batteries?

No idea, I think all the batteries are on the roof.
Possibly the axle motor inverter drive is housed there with HV cables running down the raceway from the roof. The artic Trollino 18 apears to have the same in front of both the rear and centre axles when equipped with a powered centre axle.

The Solaris Urbino 18 electric has all the high voltage/transmission offset to that side.

This took me way too long to find , here's a component view of the Trollino 12 with Medcom drive equipment as ordered by Translink.

Polish article:

Quote:
At first glance, the prototype is not significantly different from its European counterparts, but more closely, more closely, changes can be found in line with North American regulations. Above the windshields, for example, the local Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) standard features orange and red at the rear, and the roof patch and roof patches have been designed, while the basic design of the front wall remained unchanged. At the same time, there are significant differences on the back wall of the vehicle, for example, the rear luminaires are placed in a vertical lamp nest instead of the previous horizontal layout, while their size has also increased, and of course their design is also adapted to local regulations. In addition, a large, energy-absorbing bumper has been placed on the back wall, which follows the design of the North American buses. At the same time, it is important that the use of such a buffer element is not mandatory for urban buses in the case of city buses; the massive bumpers are more related to the US industry recommendations, primarily the technical specifications of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), which are also based in a number of bus procurement tenders in North America. For this reason, most local manufacturers, such as New Flyer, offer their vehicles by default with this design. Since the current purchase of TransLink was not based on APTA specifications, the tender did not require the use of the first energy-absorbing bumper, but the existence of the rear stop is likely to be due to the operator’s requirements.

The huge rear bumper is to allow for a service truck with a similarly ridiculous-looking front bumper to safely push the bus off to the side if it breaks down in the middle of the road. I wondered for a while as to why it only had that in the back until I remembered seeing this truck push one of the current models at some point.

And a bunch more photos here from a Polish transport consultant

Are sticking bike racks on the front a given?

The electric drive system is supplied by Medcom, also from Poland, which developed its drive system for twin-motor articulated trolleybuses specifically for the Canadian project, as such a configuration was not previously available from the company.

The entire length of the Expo Line will have the LIM rail replaced, starting with Waterfront - Stadium-Chinatown this spring.

The consultant also said he'll talk about the propulsion system in a future post. It seems like Translink reps were visiting for the demo.

Yes, all TransLink road vehicles have bike racks, as they should.

The guy mentions bikes/strollers inside the bus but I assume something got lost in translation.

I wonder what that black plastic cover below the driver is for.

It's in exactly the same spot as the driver's air vent used to be in the old Brill Trolleys...

I wonder if it'll keep the cameras instead of having rear view mirrors

Ah I guess and then use the EU license plate spot for the bike holder. Just noticed the current plate is attached with duct tape.

I can’t imagine any reason it would be built with the cameras and displays only to be switched to mirrors prior to delivery. I suppose if operators really don’t like the camera system for some reason they would switch the main order to mirrors.

It looks like they have a mount for at least a driver side traditional mirror sideview.

Good point, I hadn’t noticed that. It looks like the passenger side also has a mount exposed.
