This one has been such a long time coming. What is it now, five years or more?

Hopefully it will be built to the last set of renders. Smart looking building.

It looks like they're starting to move on this, the site has been fenced off.

OOPS!
https://flic.kr/p/2q6Gc6i

Good thing nobody was hurt, but it's crazy how they had traffic going though while they were doing this.

Spectacular fail. Is there a version with audio and/or in landscape orientation? I hope they had Churchill blocked to cars and pedestrians. That could’ve easily killed someone.

Wow.. thats pretty wild.

At the end of the video you can see the lane of traffic is closed off with fire services on site and the hoarded is taped off etc.

Perhaps at some point during the demolition they realized it was just going to happen this way and made the necessary precautions?

I remember a few years back there was a similar video of a demolition in Vancouver and it was more like a 2 story brick wall tipped into the street. Very much unplanned in that case.

The Ogilvy's Rideau façade partially collapse as well during demolition. Seems demo crews are just bad at bringing down brick buildings. They don't understand how real brick responds to these types of pressures.

Not much movement on this site for almost a year.

One thought I had on the design is that it would be cool if they had skewed the clocktower element 45 degrees. The old building had an angled corner, and the two other corners (Zak's and Lululemon) have them as well. If the building that Gezellig is in is ever redeveloped to have and angled corner, it would create a focal point as a virtual plaza similar to the intersections in Barcelona.

That would have been nice. Wish they had kept the facades of the older buildings and stepped back from the main street a bit more. Could have compensated by not having that random plaza in the middle.

Not a bad building on paper, but they could have done so much more in the context of Westboro Village.

Does anyone have any update on this project? It would be nice to see this new building soon on Richmond Road.

Isn't this site being used as a staging area for some roadworks by the city? Sewer work or something like that.

Bulk of that project is finished. Tomlinson will need to return in the spring to lay the final top coat of asphalt and finish any landscaping.

As an aside, I'm really looking forward to them cutting into Winona to connect to the utilities and destroying a fresh road whenever that time comes.
