Take your pick- but either criticism points our current issues straight at Jets management.
Or the third and actual reason: 3) the Jets were a good team for a number of years and traded away second round picks annually to acquire vets at the trade deadline for playoff runs. Fewer higher end draft picks available = fewer NHL ready prospects.

Apparently another trade with Buffalo

Buffalo gets Tanner Pearson

Winnipeg gets a 2026 7th round draft pick

Clearing out some salary space with this one (one million $$) ?

Not the greatest excuse when the failure rate of every top 100 pick you've made since 2016 is everyone but Samberg and Perfetti (who is looking more and more like a bust himself). After all the trades over the years the Jets actually only ended up short 2 top 100 picks between 17 and 23.

The Jets aren't in a position to miss on basically every pick they have for a decade and stay competitive.

They don't have a single core player coming in their prospect pool and their entire core is over 30. Not going to enter the 2030's with my hope if this doesn't start changing immediately. Have to wonder if Chipman has asked the question....— is going on with our scouting and development?

They changed their scouting team, or the head scout, sometime around then too. A little from column A, a little from column B?

In any case, Chevy seems to have "corrected" our ways and, at least on paper, gotten quicker, and also have our average roster age from early-to-mid 30s to early 30's, maybe a smidge under into the late 20's.

On a side note, since I'm expecting the Jets to be out of the playoffs, I find I'm kind of pulling for Buffalo this year. Nothing to do with their players, or geography or the colour of their jerseys or anything. I've just always felt Buffalo and Winnipeg were both cities that either get dumped on or ignored by their respective countries. Both are cold weather cities, both have had some stinging disappointments with their football teams.

My quick "A.I." assisted search told me Buffalo is perceived as a "forlorn or forgotten city". It faces challenges with high crime in some areas but is praised for its affordability and culture. It sounded familiar to me.

Of course I'd still like to see a Canadian team win the Stanley Cup, though I think that is less likely this year than in the past. I suppose the Oilers still have the best chance, but how many kicks at the cat will they get before the eventual decline?

So despite the U.S. administrations hostility to practically the entire planet, and my own personal on-going boycott of U.S. travel, oranges and anything else I can nickel-and-dime the U.S. against, I'm quietly pulling for Buffalo.

Unless the jets have a miraculous turnabout, then Go Jets!

You are leaving out several players that were picked in later rounds, that have gone on to play at least 50 NHL games (Poolman, Comrie, Petan, Harkins, Niku, etc). While none of these players are stars, they do provide plenty of depth, and were picked lat #43 overall or later.

Back in the day, I did a chart that showed what percentage of draft picks, by round, go on to play 100+ games in the NHL. IIRC. it was roughly 75% of first round picks, about 40% of second round picks, 20% of third round picks, and by the final rounds it was 10% or less. So even though a player may not be a star, it's hard to make a career playing in the NHL, even for draft picks.

I've never understood the hate for Chevy by a small but vocal percentage of the fan base. I still maintain that he is arguably the best GM of the past 15 years, considering Winnipeg is the least desirable place to play in the NHL, which inhibits his ability to pick up players in free agency, or at the trade deadline.

I am absolutely convinced that if the Jets were playing in Las Vegas, we would have won the Stanley Cup last year.

The biggest knock on Chevy is the word salads he gives during press conferences. At least a little acknowledgement to the comings and goings would be great.

But, again.. (if you get that joke lol).

It's his MO.

If he wasn't a GM, he'd be a politician.

Mammoth unveil new Zamboni design: ‘Zammoth’

Utah Mammoth fans are going to have quite the icebreaker.

On Tuesday, the team revealed a new design for its Zamboni, a Mammoth-themed ice resurfacing machine that they are calling the “Zammoth.”

Team owner Ryan Smith posted photos of the new design on his social media.

The Zammoth uses the same Zamboni that was used in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

On the outside of the machine, the team put together a sleek Mammoth design, tusks and all.

Up to eight fans can ride the machine at a time, and it will run pregame and between intermissions at Delta Center.

Zammoth made its debut during Tuesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. Mammoth mascot, Tusky, road on its inaugural ride.

The mammoth Zamboni is pretty cool. The problem with a Jet one is that the wings would take out the glass when driving off the ice.

Turns out it's not used as an actual Zamboni. It just drives around the ice with fans on it. Which answers my question of how it was supposed to get into the corners with those massive tusks

The Jets should style their pair, one as an F35 and one as a Griphen.

Jets still in the playoff hunt, defeating the St.Louis Blues 3-2 in St.Louis. The Jets will certainly have their work cut out for them, as 3 of their last 4 games will be against formidable opponents.

We need to catch LA, who are 3 points ahead of us, and have a relatively easy schedule. We hold the tie-breaker, so the Jets will need to win at least 3 of their last 4 games, and ahve help from the teams that play the Kings.

It still is a daunting task, but not impossible. On a positive note, the Jets record since the Olympics is 13-5-4.

Jets traded away two of their worst players and their record has improved, how about that.

They are not making the playoffs which is the worst possible outcome. Finish just outside of the playoffs and draft a third line winger who may play for you in 3 - 4 years.

This goes to show how hard it is to gain points in the NHL. With about 20 games left we were 5 points out. Now with 4 games left we are 3 out.

That 11 game losing streak cost the Jets the playoffs.

That old saying rings true - You can't win the Championship in October, but you definitely can lose it. I know the losing streak wasn't in Oct, but...it eludes to how blowing games early in the season can come back to haunt you. This was the fault of the Jets coaching and management in trotting out the same losing lineup night after night, not implementing any changes during that time.

It is very true, and they dug themselves a deep hole. There were a lot of issues during that dark period, but they seem to have righted the ship. Goaltending has improved. Perfetti is back to form. Toews has more support. And the team got younger and faster. Whether they make it to the playoffs or not, they are entertaining and fun to watch. BTW...with all the negative comments about Chevy, bringing Iafallo and Vilardi to the Jets was inspired...perhaps to be matched by the arrival of Rosen and Bryson (give this one a bit of time). Finally, great to see Lambert as a regular. He is fun to watch.
