So, currently, it's basically a slightly smaller version of this...

The fins remain...

The fins look cool but seem like they would be a hazard with water and ice above the terraces. Like the slanty roof would just launch snow torpedoes and douse you in the rain under a waterfall.

You won’t even notice this on the skyline lol. It’s going to blend in with 3 WTC. Completion in 2031 means 3 decades of endless tenant searching, designs, design revisions, change of architects completely, start of work and stop of work. Only to end up with a beacon of mediocrity that you won’t even notice if you don’t go downtown.

It is 25 feet shorter than the freakin' Empire State Building.

Your brain just fell out of your mouth.

This would be the tallest building rising in the country, outside of New York. It's very similar to the height it's always been. Any crying about the height, just please stop.

As far as construction, which will begin in a couple of months, they're targeting 2031. I would think it would be a little quicker, seeing as how foundations are already in place. The 2031 is probably more like 2030 for us, but still, I would think it would be a little sooner.

I found out about this on a Facebook post earlier today. Is there actually any truth to this? It's been a long time coming. Let the construction begin!

Except it isn’t rising outside of New York is it? It’s rising directly next to the tallest building in the country. But even if it wasn’t that is a completely irrelevant point. It’s just something you people say to deflect criticism. You can pretend that the height doesn’t matter but it absolutely does. You are not going to notice this on the skyline ever.

But I wasn’t even talking about height really, the design is a joke.

The ESB was completed in 1931. What year is it again? Being 25 feet shorter than the ESB is not an achievement. It’s also irrelevant, the overall height of this tower is not important. If it was 900 ft tall it would be the tallest building in Oklahoma but this isn’t Oklahoma. It’s not going to be visible on the skyline.

Is this post a joke?

Even in NYC, you sure as hell will notice a bulky 1,226 ft. office tower, especially in Lower Manhattan. This and One WTC will dominate the skyline for miles. This will be one of the most iconic office towers on earth.

I don't understand the rest. Design finished, financing done, and construction underway in weeks.

While I’m beyond elated that this tower will finally grace us with its presence, it mustn’t come without criticism. Criticism should not be negated; it leaves little to no room for improvement. I like to mention the pros and cons with more pros obviously. Having said that, this tower does have a decent design, I mean, it’s Foster, and he designs some elegant skyscrapers. Do I wish it looked different and was taller? Hell yes, but it is what it is, nothing we can do about it. The spiral effect was the purpose and theme of Libeskind’s master plan. The difference between 1,350’ and 1,226’ isn’t that much, to be honest. It will be noticeable and fill that annoying ass gap between 1 & 3. People would still say 1,270’ is too short, or 1,350’ isn’t high enough since the OG 2 WTC was 1,362’.

Look at how great 270 Park came out, for instance. Again, I don’t like the height cut, but whatever, just build the damn thing, it’s been nearly a quarter of a century already, and it’s beyond embarrassing.

I’m thrilled that Amex finally sealed the deal with Silverstein and the PA. It definitely got my dopamine and endorphins elevated. I think it should be done before 2031, to be honest. It will only be 55 stories and 1,226’. If they’re starting in the spring, it will commence with having to restructure the base and demolish the current mechanical structure that’s been occupying the land for over a decade, before they start superstructure work. Otherwise, where are the lobby and building services going to go? This and that.

However, I wonder what will happen to the Vesey & Fulton Street entrances to Westfield WTC since there are two of them on the north and south sides of the 2 WTC site. Won’t they have to close that section off during construction? I’m really excited that something is rising there, though. It’s going to be pretty cool seeing the steel and concrete erection while in the oculus just like it was when 3 was rising.

Let’s look at it like this, folks. It could be worse. Sure, it’s not the original TT or the 2006 master plan with the diamonds, but whatever, just rebuild and finish the site already. It’s long, long, long overdue. Amen to that. Now we just need 5 to start construction as well.

Placement is still off in some of the renderings, but someone made this…

Isn’t Greenwich between Fulton and Vescey being transformed into a green space? I think I had read that a while ago.

i dk, but it would be nice -- there is hardly any traffic there anyway.

unfortunately they probably want to keep the access road open.

i wish the fulton/oculus south side of wtc2 had more interaction with the street, like a small shop or two or an oculus mall entrance.

the streetwall in the render is unappealing as it can get.

maybe it will get something?

Wow those realistic renders look great. Improves my feelings on it a lot actually. Renderings always go crazy with the open air spaces and tree coverage it looks cartooney sometimes. Looks much more interesting to me this way.

yeah its nice to have such realistic renders for a change.

pretty unusual really.

that is very likely exactly what it will look like, or definitely feel like around it.
