Does anyone know what's going into the old Thrifty Foods and Bed Bath & Beyond spaces at 945 Marine Drive? I drove through that area the other day and there's scaffolding all along the building and the back entrance is blocked off. That's a big space if both are combined, so I'm very curious to know what's going on with it.

Both floors are still showing up on Spacelist as available.

Yeah I saw that but on the search results it still has both floors listed as available.

EDIT: Reddit said maybe a Canadian Tire

or not

"I was told from a friend who knows a lot of the guys that worked there that there was an application for a Canadian Tire in that area. Apparently, he said it was rejected by council because there was “too many automotive and parts places” and it wouldn’t be fair to their businesses as well as competition with the big Canadian Tire."

EDIT 2:

Seems like they're just repairing it.

Darn, if it's just a repair then there's nothing for me to get excited about. lol. It was looking like something significant was finally happening to those 2 vacant spaces.

Don't they know they're more than just tires?

I'm predicting the deck will be covered in seagull droppings for most of the year

Does anyone know what's going on with the old Ginger Jar location at 1420 Fell Ave? That'd be a great spot for a mixed use developement right along Mosquito Creek, but I think for now at least it's being leased out to a new tenant?

There's a proposal but not sure of the status

That's a completely different property. That one is on the Northwest corner of Marine and Fell. The one I'm referring to is the Northeast corner. It's a long lot that fronts Mosquito Creek. It was a Ginger Jar furniture store for years but is now a vacant building.

Ah sorry.

But I wonder what they can build on it considering they are so close to the river.

If you google maps it, the property is pretty substantial and the creek wont be an issue if you look at other similar property such as The Shore, or the older condos to the north of it.

This one is a HUGE letdown. I was walking by there yesterday and there's signage up saying that a Value Village is coming soon.

What a waste of that space. I have a feeling it's likely a temporary lease, as that is a prime location and redevelopment is really picking up in that area.

East/northeast building on Harbourside phase 1 is complete. The rest are nearing completion.
