Does anyone know what's going into the old Thrifty Foods and Bed Bath & Beyond spaces at 945 Marine Drive? I drove through that area the other day and there's scaffolding all along the building and the back entrance is blocked off. That's a big space if both are combined, so I'm very curious to know what's going on with it.

Both floors are still showing up on Spacelist as available.

Yeah I saw that but on the search results it still has both floors listed as available.

EDIT: Reddit said maybe a Canadian Tire

or not

"I was told from a friend who knows a lot of the guys that worked there that there was an application for a Canadian Tire in that area. Apparently, he said it was rejected by council because there was “too many automotive and parts places” and it wouldn’t be fair to their businesses as well as competition with the big Canadian Tire."

EDIT 2:

Seems like they're just repairing it.

Darn, if it's just a repair then there's nothing for me to get excited about. lol. It was looking like something significant was finally happening to those 2 vacant spaces.

Don't they know they're more than just tires?

I'm predicting the deck will be covered in seagull droppings for most of the year

Does anyone know what's going on with the old Ginger Jar location at 1420 Fell Ave? That'd be a great spot for a mixed use developement right along Mosquito Creek, but I think for now at least it's being leased out to a new tenant?

Ah sorry.

But I wonder what they can build on it considering they are so close to the river.

If you google maps it, the property is pretty substantial and the creek wont be an issue if you look at other similar property such as The Shore, or the older condos to the north of it.

This one is a HUGE letdown. I was walking by there yesterday and there's signage up saying that a Value Village is coming soon.

What a waste of that space. I have a feeling it's likely a temporary lease, as that is a prime location and redevelopment is really picking up in that area.

A townhouse project approved along the parkway with not so much parking.

quote:

Montage Development, in partnership with North Vancouver-based Naikoon Contracting, brought an application before council on March 16 to rezone four lots at 526-550 Riverside Dr. and 2194 Windridge Dr., just off Mt. Seymour Parkway.

Joe Geluch, president of Naikoon, said the project will add “missing middle” family housing to the Maplewood area, where he himself lives. The site currently holds four single family homes that he said have “reached the end of life.”

The proposed project will include 36 units spread across four buildings – two three-storey and two four-storey – with an internal walkway connecting all four buildings, a children’s play area, an outdoor amenity space and a shared underground parking garage.

The units will comprise 12 one-bedroom, 10 two-bedroom, eight three-bedroom and four four-bedroom layouts, with eight lock-off units – small, self-contained units within a larger dwelling that can be used for visitors or rentals.

Proposed 397-unit Lynn Valley development moves to public hearing

A plan to build nearly 400 residential units in Lynn Valley is set to go to a public hearing soon.

Polygon Development 395 Ltd. is requesting approval to build four six-storey buildings across the street from Lynn Valley Centre in a space that now houses a strip mall and rental townhouse complex.

District of North Vancouver council OK’d the development plan for further public input Monday.

The proposed development would includes 397 residential units across four buildings with two levels of underground parking, equalling to around 481 spots for vehicles. Units range from studios to three-bedroom, with a mix of rental and strata. One of those buildings will have two storeys dedicated to commercial space.

If approved, the development would span across 1246-1268 Lynn Valley Road, 3050-3174 Baird Road and a lane between 1202 Ross Road and 3050 Baird Road, replacing Lynn Valley Mall (not to be confused with the much larger Lynn Valley Centre across the street) and the rental townhouse complex Draycott Gardens.

Mackenzie Stonehocker, development planner for the district, gave a presentation to council saying the project would be built in two phases. The first phase would demolish Lynn Valley Mall – currently home to businesses such as Dairy Queen, Mr. Sushi and a furniture liquidation store – to be replaced by the first two buildings.

When the new units are ready, current tenants from Draycott Gardens could move into the new buildings at their current rents, if they so choose. The townhouse complex would then be demolished and the other two buildings would be constructed, said Stonehocker.

For those wanting to relocate elsewhere, tenants could receive financial assistance and compensation following the Residential Tenant Relocation Assistance Policy.

Canada Post has announced the first round of community mailbox conversion locations, and the North Shore will be part of that change. Addresses in the District, City, and West Vancouver (postal codes V7M, V7P, V7R, V7S, V7T, V7V, and V7W) will be part of the switch. There's no indication of proposed box locations yet, and Canada Post says that "converting an address from door-to-door delivery to a community mailbox typically takes months".
