I've seen Taipei 101 in person and thought it looked shorter than expected.

Sears and the original WTC are 520+m to their antennas. The CTBUH rule is stupid IMO.

It's similar to Sears and WTC and even a bit shorter than Central Park Tower by roof, quite tall but fairly normal by today's standards.

Gotta say I'm in love with Kingdom Tower, what a kickass building.

It will set a new record by a huge margin. Highest occupied floors:

#1 Jeddah Tower: 668 m (2,192 ft)
#2 Burj Khalifa: 585 m (1,921 ft)
#3 Shanghai Tower: 583 m (1,914 ft)
#4 Ping An Finance Centre: 562 m (1,844 ft)
#5 China Zun Tower: 516 m (1,691 ft)

Well, I saw Taipei 101 in 2016 and it already felt "fairly normal", though it was late at night. It might have looked more impressive under broad daylight. Also, I had seen the 632 m Shanghai Tower just ~10 months prior, so in comparison the 508 m Taipei 101 looked underwhelming.

Taipei 101 is a 390 meter building with a hat so it makes sense Shanghai Tower looked way taller, even if their architectural height is closer.

The tallest buildings I've ever seen were all 4-500 meters and felt huge in person. I really want to see Burj and Shanghai Tower though.

Fingers crossed USA can pull off a new tallest in the near future.

I decided to search for videos of the tower posted in the last week, and I've found that there are quite a few shorts showing progress of the construction. I'm not entirely sure it's real, but I've been looking at quite a few of them and they all seem to match up with the height and cladding of the building when they were posted. Well, here it is in Hong Kong! And without taking anything away from the city, I honestly think it looked better in NYC. Either way, even though it's undeniably a landmark project, I'm just not a huge fan of buildings with such exaggerated spires. I'd much rather go with something like 270 Park Avenue or the Shanghai Tower. But again, I'm not detracting from its value at all—it's still a magnificent feat of engineering.

This Kingdom Tower is impressive BUT I want to see More pics, not just youtube links.

imagine the wind load on upper part of this structure, any major storm will really cause some sway.

any idea what the sway factor as a function of wind speed is of this tower ?
