444 West Beech by Austin based Endeavor Real Estate Group in Little Italy

Planned for 491 apartments (37 affordable), 6,938 sq. ft. retail, will be 39 stories tall



1555 5th aka Obelisk on 5th by Elda Developments in Cortez Hill

Planned for 150 apartments (9 affordable), 6,360 sq. ft. retail, 24 stories



Dreamboat in Little Italy, Northeast corner of Kettner Boulevard and Juniper Street

Planned for 59 hotel rooms, 8,264 sq. ft. retail

Just did some brief research, the LLC is managed by the owner of Consortium Holdings. They're basically making a new build Lafyette Hotel




Salvation Army Rady Center Phase 1 with Wakeland Development in the Western end of East Village

Planned for 53 units, likely affordable, 5 stories




Lastly moving to the construction phase is the City College housing development, which I have wrote about here

Heard the state supports the Midway Rising project. The AG says the project is compliant with the state’s density bonus law.

Yeah I lived about a block away for a year. That area is nice but its so dead. No shops or restaurants really. Its nice so just adding more people should help. Harrington Heights has added to that area too so fingers crossed.

Anybody know what it will be turned into?

San Diego has new "tallest thinnest" on Harvey Milk St and Centre in Hillcrest. Looks to be over 110 feet tall on one standard old San Diego sized lot! This project for some reason never had a crane that I noticed. There is a 9 floor thin building right across the street. It's like a little pocket of Vietnamese style density in HC!

Yep, just got an article up on it by Nehemiah. Super cool project. They used masonry and mass timber so didn't need an on site crane as all materials can be easily lifted other ways.

Framing Starting for Phase One of Riverwalk San Diego

Phase One of Riverwalk San Diego is well underway! We are in the process of completing foundations and starting to frame apartment units. You will soon see residential (721 homes) and retail buildings take shape.

Simultaneously, we have started to design the new green line trolley station for Riverwalk. This station will be connected to Phase One along with a village green gathering space.

Adjacent to Phase One is The Becker, an affordable community with 188 apartment units by Wakeland Housing at Riverwalk. Construction commenced in the summer of 2025, and the team is also framing apartment units. Tenant interest lists for all housing will open in 2027. Those who are looking for affordable housing now can go to www.wakelandhdc.com/leasing-information for other properties.

The 18-hole golf course at Riverwalk will remain open during construction and for at least 7-10 more years, so don’t hold back, golfers!

At full buildout, Riverwalk will include 4,300 homes (including 430 affordable homes), 152,000 square feet of retail, one million square feet of office, and approximately 97 acres of parks, open space, and trails, including a restored San Diego River and a 55-acre regional park.

As we continue to look forward to the completion and grand opening of Phase One in spring 2029 (with some homes coming available sooner), we can’t express our gratitude enough to the community members, organizations, and public servants who helped shape Riverwalk San Diego and make this village possible. I was exploring an architects website and i found 2 very interesting projects

a look at internet archive showed they have been added since 2023

First is Union and B, I believe this site is now owned and planned to be a mts bus layover yard. But given the timing of their work im not sure.

This is so cool! Mass timber feels like one of those things I only saw being built in other cities, but not here. So after Niima Outpost, is this only the second mass timber building in San Diego? Hopefully more are planned.

I've seen that first one before, but I don't recall anything about it. I like the diamond design elements. Feels like buildings going up in Australia.

I haven't seen that second one though. That plot of land could do with something tall like this.

Recommend giving this a read, LPA Design does quarterly news letters, and this one has lots of San Diego stuff. Its a good read.

Has anyone else noticed that from certain angles North Park kind of has its own mini skyline now? The problem is it's so hard to find a good vantage point to view it from because it's right in the middle of a broad swath of the flat mesa and it obviously isn't a tall skyline. Maybe the museum of man tower at Balboa Park would be a good place to get pics

I have seen the view from the Lindley in Downtown. Its pretty nice. For me my favorite view is from the Chula Vista bayfront as you can see from downtown to Hillcrest. The corridor there is a super cool to see. Any good view of North Park will likely be from the south but there's nowhere taller directly south of it. Serra Mesa to the north is also shorter.

IMO the best view would probably be from Del Cerro as its higher in elevation but its far

Because North Park is incredibly flat compared to the rest of the city, you dont end up with a situation where you have a super prominent 8 story building, like we are about to in Golden Hill and Linda Vista

7 stories but still super prominent, its next to USD at 1233 Hueneme St. 94 units

The crane is up for it right now, can see it from much of mission valley
