Guess they shouldn’t have torn down that White Spot so quickly.

Yet another lot bought up and left empty for years with no plans to build anything. Why does the city allow this to keep happening?

Reading back the thread, reminded me of this news storey ‘Simply a scam’: B.C. community gardens growing big tax breaks for developers from this pass december.
My job being tied to construction, I don't mind has a tax payer this tax break for developpers.

They're probably reeling from that decision and losing the income.
I suppose there's not much demand in that area for a surface parking lot.

The owners of White Spot sold the site in 2017, but kept the restaurant running until 2020 when COVID meant they decided to not renew the lease. The site owners weren't ready to develop then, but they presumably didn't want the liability of a closed restaurant, and it was demolished. It's understandable, given how unknown the future of restaurants was when the decision was made to close.

I don't think a surface parking lot would be viable there, even if the City allowed one. The dog park is probably as good as can be expected to happen for a few years. At least Anthem's Park and the Bosa tower are being built, and the other stalled buildings proposed in the area haven't been cleared, so it's not much of an impact overall.

Good point about Covid messing up tenant prospects.

Wow, time flies. It doesn't seem that long ago. I was always surprised how busy that White Spot could be considering the awkward location. That whole stretch of W.Georgia is kind of a dead zone now.
