This could be all true.. but I have a contact who works very close by, only a few months ago told me they had a meeting with the city and Ashford to go over plans for the properties and the new street grid. This was so that business could come up with plans for parking for businesses and the Court House.

And I have heard they are still working on plans and schematics for the proposed commercial building. The building will be substantial (30 storeys).

It is only prudent to continue on with the planning and design process, so that you can be ready to move quickly if the funding can be worked out. Ongoing work behind the scene however does not guarantee that construction will happen.

Nothing is a sure thing until the tower crane arrives on the construction site.

It's an interesting file for sure. The one thing that encourages me is that the city infrastructure work was spread out over several years. If Ashford were waiting for the city to finish this work, then 2026 would have been their starting date all along. I don't think that all these plans that we've seen would have been created for nothing.

I also don't think that Ashford would have any financial problems creating the private component of the overall development, and I'm sure they would be on top of market conditions. The most recent CMHC report shows the overall vacancy rate in Moncton is just 3.8% which they rate as "very good." The first two 3 sisters buildings are 95% leased.

Maybe the public component has become an issue, who knows. Hopefully we'll get an update soon.

i really think there is a problem with the proposed Casa Latina restaurant on Main Street. There is still no sign of construction activity going on in the proposed location. Lots of "coming soon" signs plastered in the windows, but, <crickets> otherwise.

Gaxiola Mexican Restaurant has been announced for Moncton. There are job adverts on line for a chef.

- Homeowners on Steadman Street have been approached by a developer to sell their land to allow for a major project. Apparently a majority of owners have agreed.
- Sewage and infrastructure work may begin this year (perhaps in conjunction with the major work upcoming on East Main Street).
- The project timeline may take as long as five years (2030).
- The developer may be Nick Spataro (the developer behind FiveFive Queen).
- The building may be roughly twice the height of FiveFive Queen (so, in the 15-18 storey range).

I can believe that a project like this could belong to Spataro. I absolutely recall him saying at the time FiveFive was finishing up that he was open to doing another similar project elsewhere in downtown Moncton in the future. This block of land is only a block away from FiveFive Queen. Perfect location. Perfect synergy.

If this rumour is real, I can see a major mixed use development similar to FiveFive, only larger. It is on the NE corner of Main/Assumption at one of the most prominent intersections in the city. A signature development belongs here. I could see ground floor commercial/retail facing Main Street, and a tower with residential +/- hotel, just like FiveFive Queen.

Has anyone heard anything about this project recently?

The new centre will be located at 80 Limerick Street on the former site of a Kiwanis pool, currently vacant. Wallace said the site is in a corridor of activity — near the Dud James Sports Complex, a baseball field, Curl Moncton, a YMCA, Oulton College and a short walk from a legion branch.

The centre will focus on wellness, exercise, education and putting an end to social isolation.

It will be fully accessible with parking on site and bus routes nearby on Mountain Road and Edmonton Avenue.

Great addition to the city and in a good central location. However, it will be a challenge if there is a baseball game going on and folks are parked in the lot adjacent to the park. A lot of foul balls land there... hate to see a senior's car get damaged.
