LOL , thank you. Highways in general are my obsession. It would be awesome if we could get the federal funding to get this actually built.

For Ontario, twinning is a harder of course due to its terrain. But I feel like the Dryden area would probably be one of the easiest areas to twin through as it is fairly flat compared to other areas. East of Dryden to Thunder Bay is more hilly and curvy, but doable for less money. Kenora to Vermillion Bay is a pretty hard area due to rugged terrain and its proximity to many lakes.

Going East of Nipigon, Highway 17 is very rugged, but North Bay to Arnprior is where twinning is needed the most.

I also think it would be great if Ontario Highway 11 would be twinned between Nipigon to North Bay. Yeah, I'm aware of a 2+1 Highway, but Highway 11 is mostly goimng through flat terrain so I feel like it would be perfectly capable of being twinned and it could be used as a High Speed Bypass of Highway 17 making travel time between Toronto shorter despite longer distance. But it likely won't become an Expressway due to the low population out there. But I've been hearing about the Ring of Fire Mine opening in Ontario, so likely Highway 11 has a chance to unleash its full potential.

But, given the firm plans and intent for the Perimeter Hwy (100 and 101) to be free-flowing and all the interchanges that entails, it may be ages before we ever see an interchange at the TCH and 206. And frankly, they are more urgently needed at Deacon's Corner (207), 16/Yellowhead, and the two in Brandon. Which really makes me scratch my head at why they spent so much money and effort upgrading the lights and intersection at TCH and 207. They were half way to an interchange!
Ditto, Hwy 16, Deacons Corner, Brandon, and Carberry are nailed in my top Interchange Priorities. But something preliminary could be done at Highway 206 such as a new realignment with a better Intersection.

Oh yea, does the plan for interchanges on TCH through Brandon leave room for 6 through lanes? The current median width is not wide enough for adding 2 lanes + median concrete therein.

I believe the Interchange plans for Brandon is supposed to have a 2 bridges with one on the West side of the Esso, and one on the East side of the Volvo Truck Center.

And if you look at the North Side of Highway 1, they built a partial North Service Road, that will most likely be extended behind the Esso when an Interchange gets built. I think that the same will likely be done eventually on the South Side of the Highway.

As you can also see on both sides right along the Highway, there are two service roads (called Middleton and Highland Ave). I have a feeling once they build those Interchanges, it's likely they will rip them out and just use the back accesses on the new Service Roads. This way it will allow more room for Highway expansion.

Access roads would be in the back, yes. On any of these major projects they plan for 6 lanes. I'll see if I cand find the drawrings for Brandon.

This is mostly just a schematic but shows the plan. IIRC this is on the short list of projects. Timeframe being relative lol

It was here. Feasibility study, maybe functional design. The name is confusing. So pretty early days. I dont think that even happened per the timelines. Most of that stuff didn't.

The 2026 consultant schedule is out now, some highlights:

Functional Design Bituminous Reconstruction (Twinning) 015 PTH 101--1.2km East of PR 206 Springfield February - PTH 15 twinning to Dugald
Detailed Design Bituminous Reconstruction (Twinning) 010 E Jct PTH 1--2.5km N of E Jct PTH 1 Elton March - PTH 10 - Twinning PTH 10 in Brandon from Hwy 1 to the airport, I think this is the first we've heard of this but it does make sense given the industrial park up there as well.
Detailed Design Structure Replacement 001 At Symington Yard Overpass (East of Winnipeg) Springfield August (Symington Overpass)
Detailed Design Structure Replacement 100 1.8 kilometers east of PTH 75 over the Red River Winnipeg March (South Perimeter Red River bridge)
Detailed Design Structure Rehabilitation 240 Grade Separation over CNR/CPKC Tracks on PR 240:0.6km North of PTH 1A Portage La Prairie April (PR 240 Rail Overpass Portage)
Detailed Design Detailed Design of New Structure on PTH 59 over Brokenhead River (Bridge Site No. 3141-10) 059 3.8km South of PR 319 (Vicinity of Scanterbury) St. Clements May (PTH 59N bridge, may hint at PTH 59 twinning options)

No sign of the other big projects mentioned in the 2025 schedule, not sure if that means they were quietly awarded, or if they were cancelled?

So thats what I picked out of the 2026 consultant sched, as you mentioned. I would assume the other engineering projects have been awarded and are moving forward. I'll pick through the list after supper and update here.

I drive south to Niverville 2x a week and this is a long time coming. there's lots traffic at all hours of the day. It was suppose to be twinned years ago, change in political gov't stalled that. Functional design is very early in process but so not sure how many more years it'll be.

"In recent weeks, the province has announced that they’ve put out a tender for a functional design study on the highway route from Île-des-Chênes south to the intersection of Highway 52"

There's an easy way to twin 59 from 52 to Ile Des Chenes. I feel like building around the private properties is the toughest part, but we can easily do it by building around them without expropriation. The part between 305 and 311 has minimal private enterances, so that portion can be built on the current alignment. We don't really need studies here, just cough up the bucks and start building.

Sad. IIRC the Province is adding passing lanes at unknown locations all the way out to Gimli. Maybe even this year. I can check and see the advertising schedule in a bit.

Highway 8 is in need of twinning. Maybe not all the way to Gimli in one shot, but at least getting it twinned from 230 to 67 Intersection would be a helpful change.

And remember the Winnipeg-Selkirk Corridor that was planned? I remember it was meant to be built alongside or a twinned Highway 230. But I noticed it would be cutting through exurb neighbourhoods and I'm not really sure if local residents would be pleased with the noise and possible expropriation.

https://imgur.com/a/S61qSWd

I did some drawing and I thought it would be a good idea for the province to twin Highway 67 from the Highway 8 Intersection and realign it to connect with the Selkirk Bypass. It makes sense because Highway 8 needs to be twinned anyhow. Therefore getting Highway 67 twinned could shave off twinning through Rossdale Area on Hwy 230. And since Highway 67 is meant more for a Highway unlike 230 (which is an exurban residential road), Hwy 67 and 8 are more ready to take on the role of a Rural Expressway linking to Selkirk.

If they ever wanted to do the Selkirk corridor now, they'd need to find a path through likely to the east of PR 230. The whole reason that highway is twinned only to the airport was for the Selkirk corridor.

But that's not anything we'll ever see from what I know of. Especially with the McPhillips/101 interchange being changed from a cloverleaf to parclo. Passing lanes is a start. The southbound twinned lanes from the airport to 101 are up for reconstruction this year, maybe next can't remember. Those lanes are straight out of 1960, with steep, narrow gravel shoulders. Can't believe it's taken so long to get that section redone.

Yeah, I understand the Highway would be built just a little bit East of 230. It would contain a little bit of expropriation but nothing too much. But I feel like my corridor is a little bit better because it would kill two birds with one stone. It would get Hwy 8 twinned to 67 (which does need to be done eventually anyways). And Hwy 67 wouldn't be overly hard to twin.

It would be great to get the southbound lanes twinned too, along with adding a Service Road on the West Side. The idea of changing the McPhillips Interchange to Parclo I am not the biggest fan of that. But I look at lots of Highways in USA where they go from Freeway in a rural area, but have a Parclo when changing to an urban arterial/ meeting with an Interstate or other expressway. And Ray Gibbon Drive in Edmonton/ St Albert which will serve a similar function to the Winnipeg Selkirk Corridor has a Parclo with Anthony Henday. That won't be a freeway either, but will work similarly.

P.S. Highway 8 would serve a similar role to what Highway 7 does now. Hwy 7 is twinned from the Perimeter to just North of 67. And Hwy 236 connecting from Perimeter @ Highway 6 to Stonewall works as an alternate back road. Maybe when Hwy 6 gets extended to Inkster, Hwy 236 will be shortcut. Hwy 7 and 8 would be the Expressways that Bypass the bigger towns/ bedroom cities. 230 and 236 would work as local residential access.

Ya I get it. Going from twinned highway to twinned highway should be systems interchange. But they're making the choice to downgrade, so be it. They could always change it again at some distant future time. Downgrading Main St for example, I'm pretty fine with that since it's more local than a through highway. Although it does go to Selkirk, so I dunno. The Selkirk corridor would be the solution there.

#7 has a lot of traffic going to the quarry. So makes sense than the twinned section goes that far. #7 is slated for major rehabilitation/reconstruction starting next year IIRC. Both NB and SB through the entire twinned section.
