I think the past government had high hopes they were going to get some federal money to build the St Norbert by-pass. I believe that is why they didn't want to align Waverley and Kenaston.

Now in typical government fashion, we have two goofy at grade intersections where every observant passer by likely says "well that is strange, why do they have two roads so close together with two intersections. Why don't they just connect them?"

They probably could have got federal dollars for the project if our glorious premier at the time wasn't such an abrasive a**hole towards Ottawa on every fed/prov issue.

The Manitoba road con map is back online. They updated some projects with the symington overpass being pushed up to 2027-2030 now…

Winter 2025 would refer to Jan 2025 timeframe. Since we've heard zero on it, I'd imagine 2027 is the most realistic we could get at this point.

I wonder if there are some issues (cost sharing or site access scheduling?) with CN as the bridge goes over the pulldown lead to the CN switching hump and the Sprague Sub Division running to eastern Canada thru the US.

I recall hearing a number of years ago when the bridge was being reinforced that CN did not want to give large blocks of time to the contractor so the project took longer than normal to finish.

This will definitely be a difficult area to work over the track. It is critical to CN ops. They'll likely need to prefab the bridge spans off site (Ie: to the side somewhere) and lift them into place during shorter work blocks. CN will not be shutting down for work blocks on daily basis to lift girders, and place the deck.

Maybe thats where one of the options to relocate the bridge further eastward would be better. And only have one span go over the pullback tracks. Instead of the current setup with 4 spans. And maybe why we haven't heard anything because long spans are expensive. Something like the tub girders at Kenaston and Bishop.

That’s exactly why I was seeing if anyone knew anything haha! I drove under it and the girders and foundation are crumbling to dust. I would like to think it warrants a closure over the Arlington bridge…

The bridge was strengthened maybe 5-7 years ago. Thats what all the steel bracing and such are underneath. But it's definitely in rough shape haha

More recent than that. Part of my commute route so I care, with retirement at least 3 years away.

1I noticed the province has removed the last 3 uncontrolled access points along the North Perimeter. The one eastbound near main street/paintball paradise and the 2 westbound Holmes road access points. (Well i only noticed one of these but assume they've removed both).

So that means they've closed all median openings and uncontrolled access on PTH 101. The remaining crossings have traffic signals (5 locations) or are railways (6 locations).

No there is still at least one uncontrolled intersections on the north perimeter, west bound between mcphillips and pipeline, but the number has been reduced drastically. In my opinion there should be none but businesses and residents scream.

I pulled these specific projects our from the MTI (Provincial) advertising schedule for engineering consultants. Was updated in April. Does anybody know anything about these being released and/or being worked on? Some are still noted to be released in November.

A lot of these are the long standing projects that we've heard nothing about in recent years. Note that is A LOT of engineering work on very large projects for the Province. All to be done at the same time.

Design for Highway 59 and 52 shouldn't be crazy hard to do. I feel like a slight realignment of 59 could reduce expropriation of local accesses. I feel like a straightening of the Highway 59 and 52 Intersection to remove the skew angle is critical. Highway 52 has lots of accesses to private driveways, but I feel like there's enough space to fit 2 service roads North and South of 52 along with twinning.

I wonder how feasible it would be to build a bridge to connect Highway 75 with 311? It could compliment the Highway 59 twinning as Highway 75 could be used as a viable alternative.

Just a general question:
Is there a reason Manitoba uses the term “Provincial Trunk Highway” (PTH) rather than just Provincial Highway - why the “Trunk” ?

Because a PTH is a trunk route rather than a secondary highway.

I believe Manitoba and Nova Scotia are the only provinces which still formally use the term "trunk highway" and each uses the term differently. It's the complete opposite in Nova Scotia vs. Manitoba. Nova Scotia's arterial highways are signed as 100-series. The designation is applied to highways that are either a fully divided freeway or Super-2. The designation is also applied to sections of uncontrolled access highways which are deemed strategically important and are planned to be upgraded in the future to freeway. Trunk routes are secondary highways and there's a third classification called "Collector" highways.
